At first I was. But once I understood what it was, what things could cause it and how they could tell without me wasting hours at the shop I took a different view.

Ya. But for 150 grand id expect it to go atleast 5 years before a code pops up. That kind of money should get better quality.

Well I never got an actual code and what did trigger just was a sign that it might need a tune up which I already had an appointment for.

CJ? Is it a new Volvo 780? We heard from some friends of ours that it is very common to have to change a lot of sensors the first year. Hopefully that is not true and they just had bad luck.

Not a Volvo. I would NOT buy one of those. It's a WS and the sensor wasn't bad. It did exactly what it was suppose to. Get a driver who doesn't stay on top of his scheduled maintenance to go oh crap. I just happen to stay on top of mine.

Mine went 20k before the DEF pump went out. No out of pocket to fix it but I was out 2 days work & a hotel stay. Warranty work can be expensive.
I was surprised that was the only problem I had out of that truck in 120k miles.

I don't mind the truck I have now buy I have thought about finding an older 12.7 & 13 speed & put in it in the future. Not sure if it would be worth it though since I'm sure I'll have to change a bunch of stuff, including rear gears.

This 12.7 that's 15 years old has had 1 unexpected break down. Loss 1 day for a fuel injector. And that was at 850k miles. There is absolutely no reason that 15 years later engineering dependability has gotten worse instead of better. It's just ludicrous how low the standard has been dropped.

They scared us away from buying one too, (a Volvo) although they sure are purrrrty and spacious. My husband was talking about a Western Star. We're not sure, though, as FL is coming out with a nice truck this year that seems promising (the 2018 Cascadia). We may just keep our current truck for another year or two and then decide.

If ya got a good truck, why replace it? No need to spend money that didn't have to be spent.

    Chickadee Thanks this.
