Why both sides? What would it hurt to replace just one for now untill i have more time to get the other done?

Replace both sides. You're down anyway, all your tools are ready, might as well use the time wisely.
Do both sides and you won't have to worry about them.

I have seen our shop where the kingpin drops out and then times where it takes two guys several hours and lots of heat t get one out. They also made their own pin driver. They turned down an old pin and welded a 3' handle on it, along with a 12 pound sledge hammer. I have seen where they had to drive a pin halfway before it dropped out.

I know the process but not something I want to tackle.

Keep in mind, Hardened steel + Hammer = Safety Glasses! Be safe out there.

Absoluetly, should have mentioned that.Have a bad scar on my inner wrist, from when I was a kid tapping a Cummins wristpin with a hammer.Had just overhauled a Cummins, and like an idiot,I was putting old wristpins back into the pistons,to send to Cummins for warranty examination.Piece of pin exploded, went into my inner wrist, cut the main artery.Never bled so much in my life.Painful part at the hospital, while the Dr. was digging around in my wrist with his finger to try get the piece of steel out before they sewed me up.Never ever hit hardened steel against hardened steel.I cringe whenever I see a guy hit a hammer with a hammer!

I had one truck that they had to use a portable hydraulic press to push the pin out, then they had one hell of a time with the liner getting out then the new one in, it took a day just for that.

Why do I recommend someone doing it for you that have done it before, because this is a steering part and if you do it wrong, or something isn't just right, it will eat your tires up and then you have to do it again to fix the problem.

The question is why are you replacing it in the first place?

Is there a lot of wearing on that side and a lot of run out on the bearing?

Just an edit, I have done kingpins on everything from a model T to a 2015 mack, so it isn't something I don't know about.

To the OP,you have made sure it's the kingpin that is bad, correct? Not the wheel bearing out of adjustment.Odd to see just one side wear.If any wear,in my experience the drivers side will wear a little quicker than the passenger side.Good luck, whatever you figure out.
