We went on holiday to Ireland in May 2007 and loved it. Just wondering if there are any Irish truck drivers on this forum. Hubby and I have some questions about driving in Ireland. One of the interesting things we noticed was almost all the semi trailers we saw were curtainsides. Can anyone tell us why? More questions to follow if we can talk with a real Irish driver.

Do you drink Irish whiskey and Guinness? If not, you might just be a NASCAR fan. :biggrin_25525:

I'm so excited to talk with a real Irish trucker.
How hard is it for an American to get a license to drive a semi in Ireland?
In comparison with other jobs in Ireland, how does the pay rank?
How much experience would someone need to get a good trucking job?

That's just a few of the questions I have. Any other info would be helpful too. I want to know everything there is to know about trucking in Ireland. lol.

    O.k.
Firstly your u.s. License will cover you for a year in the u.k. As northen ireland is part of the united kingdom.
After one year you must exchange it for a u.k. License.
I do european haulage which takes me to mainland europe and i average home £600 for 6 days, approx $1200.
Trucks are limited to 56mph and we are governed by drivers hours and a tachograph is fitted in the cab so those money grabbing sob's in the government can fine us if we run over the hours.
Trust me my friend stay where you are.
At least you got plenty of places to hide, here the ######## are never off our backs.
The one good thing is that most firms pay your fines except speeding.
Need anymore give me a shout.
    Regards robert
