Just got the Qualcomm message from our terminal leader that starting tomorrow drivers can cover the inward facing camera and it will be remotely turned off. There's also an article on the portal saying the same thing. Outward facing stays of course. Score one for the drivers!!!

No, management is tired of lawyers having access to video evidence of the overall quality of Swift drivers. Saw one on his side yesterday evening in Hickory, NC. How he managed it completely eludes me.

I agree. I never umderstood why any company would put driver facing cameras in their trucks
More fuel for the lawyers to use against drivers and companies.
Btw... its just not swift drivers that make mistakes

Swift may have wanted some evidence they could point to when firing a driver they didn't like.
    Sounds like the idea backfired.

Ive always have been against them as a matter of course. If they want to watch my ugly mug then they need to have the same cameras in their dispatch office for me to watch. Fairs fair Lol.

Lawyers love this stuff. Anything they can use against company in court is fuel.

There was a wreck not long ago in which a driver refused to let go of his cell phone which was a cause of that wreck. And the inward camera caught the whole thing. All of it will just add to the penalties and punishment stacked against the driver and the company that allowed him.

    However.

If you do not yet have a dash cam for yourself either a go pro on your hat or your dashboard etc get one on there. If the company has one on there great. But get one for yourself anyway. The video usually decides for all concerned really fast what is what after a incident or accident.

I didn't like the idea of the driver facing camera from the beginning and I spoke out about it.

Having lived with one for several months it has stopped bothering me.
Maybe that is because I have never been called to account for any of the videos that have been sent in. They have all been resolved behind the scenes by my DM, and whoever else looks at them. They never showed me doing anything unsafe.

I dunno. From the outside lookin' in, this just makes the company look bad. They force these driver cameras on the drivers, saying it will make them safer and help in the event of a lawsuit, cuz it will prove the driver was paying attention and doing as he is supposed to do. Then all of a sudden they remove the cameras.

    Hmmmmmmm.

If some one knows that he or she is being watched, even for the most minor of infractions, that individual will be on his or her absolute best behavior, at all times.

From the looks of it, management doesn't like being put through the ringer. It has nothing to do with the privacy concerns of the individual truck drivers.

No one could do that day in and day out, forever.
Old habits would kick in at some point.
