Well, this all sucks pretty much. Had planned on going to Byrdstown Friday to decide whether to get the Coronado or a Pete 579....reason we were considering a glider is because of having to replace an EGR and transmission in our 2015 Volvo 780....transmission under warranty, but still time lost. Despite how expensive it is, thinking going through Penske with full service lease may be the better option, at least they take care of you quickly or give you another truck to use if needed.

So now I got 40,000 miles on my rebuild done by my local shop that I trust and built with all OEM parts built to a 2003 model spec. So far so good...

    Terry270 Thanks this.

Good God that's ugly, especially for only having 244,000.

rebuild it by yourself or locals you trust could be more beneficial than having someone putting in aftermarket nonsense unless it non-wastegate turbo and manifolfd.

I just purchased a 389 Pete with the Fitz Detroit 60. I have about 1500 miles on it and I am not impressed at all. It has no balls at all. I wish I spent the extra 20k for a CAT. I guess I am still learning how to drive this thing after coming out of a 550 CAT but it really seems like a flatlands truck. Anyone run a Pittsburgh Power Box behind at Fitz Detroit 60?

I now have 671,000 on my factory remanned Detroit 60. Oil samples look as good as ever. Motor just as strong and getting similar fuel economy as when it was young. Still only uses about 2 qt of oil in 22,000 miles. When this one is due for a rebuild, will probably just get another factory reman crate engine and drop it in. I just don't trust any shops to get the job done right.

The main problem I have seen recently with gliders with S60's is that they are gearing them like what newer low RPM engines would get. S60's like to breath. I haul a lot of heavy bulk stuff in a dry box and I still average in the high 7's for fuel economy and I can put a lot of the newer stuff to shame on a hill. Only thing different about mine is a BW 171702 non waste gate turbo with a PTP turbo blanket on it and a Bully Dog Manifold. Both of which got put on before the engine was dropped into my new glider.
