My big Gamin has been up in my windshield for more than 2 years, (original suction cup). It has came down numerous times like when parked on hot days. But lately it got to where it would not stay up, no matter what I did to clean the glass and ensure the rubber was clean.

Did a web search and one guy said using ArmorAll cleaning wipes would correct most troubled suction holders. It seems to have helped mine. Will know more if it stays up all day tomorrow.

Any other tips for suction problems? I prefer mine where it is in the windshield as opposed to using various dash systems or bases. And the bigger 7 inch screen is heavy and taxing on them in such a position. I'm not sure how critical the spring is inside them. It seems mine is much weaker then it was when new, but it seems to hold, regardless.

A 3/8" drill bit, bolt with washers and nylock nut - should be all good.

Spray a little bit of window cleaner on the suction cup and clean it then spray it again to moisten it then stick it to the glass.

I just went thru this exact same thing. I ended buying one of those sticky cups that you can mount anywhere. But I was sitting in the truck at a jobsite this week and decided to try cleaning the original garmin again. I clean it several times with the foamy aerosol window type cleaner, and behold, it worked. I even try to pulled it off the windshield it was stuck on and it took a lot of force to remove it. Well at least I know it works.

Some people just lick the windshield first then mount it. You know, the old saying--

You gotta lick it before you stick it. lol
