Can DOT legally search my backpack, even if it's on me when he searches my cab?

    NO they don't.

There are two issues, first is the law that allows them the access 100 miles within the border, and the other is when you go through customs at a border crossing.

I don't agree with the law but it is there and won't go away. They can inspect the vehicle as if it was at a border crossing.

Then we have the border crossing issue, they can do pretty much what they want at a border crossing, I've seen them tear cars apart to find contraband - like Tylenol 1 and they didn't have to have a warrant, they are in control at that point and don't need a warrant.

I could ask you the same thing! In grade school, we had the Apple iie. Then there are those who would ask me the same question, as they were chipping into stone tablets with chisels in grade school.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your post CBP/DHS don't agree with you.

"Border Patrol checkpoints do not give Border Patrol Agents carte blanche to automatically search persons and their vehicles, other then in the manner described above. In order to conduct a legal search under the Fourth Amendment, the agents must develop particularly probable cause to conduct a lawful search. Probable cause can be developed from agent observations, records checks, non-intrusive canine sniffs and other established means. Motorist's may consent to a search, but are not required to do so."

The brititanica(sp) complete encyclopedia? Or "bob"?

My granfather had me using those books to complete homework if i stayed at his house on a school night.
Then highschool came and we were issued brand new apple laptops. This was as a freshman in 2004. Thats when those books went away for me.
Told my wife though, if i ever find a deal... im snatching up a bookshelf and the best edition i can find.
