E logs all the way. I make better money the last handful of years on E logs then I ever did with paper logs. Only 1 time did a DOT officer say show me your logs when I said I'm on electronic. I showed my screen and that was the end of that I was on my way.

If electronic signature then showing display is valid, if cannot do an electronic signature then must print upon LEO's request.

    Guidance

By issuing new guidance, FMCSA has moved to remove this confusion. Published in the Federal Register this week, the guidance is not in the form of a formal regulation but instead gives a general overview of how enforcement officials should view electronic logs.

The app or program must allow for electronic signing. Naturally, this is easier on a smartphone or tablet than on a laptop as they have touch screens. If electronic signing is not possible, the driver must print the log and sign it by hand. Law enforcement has been directed to give drivers an opportunity to do this when inspecting an unsigned electronic log.

The app or program must store log pages so that a law enforcement officer can see at least seven days of records. Alternatively, the driver must be able to print seven days’ worth of information upon request of law enforcement.

The electronic signature is extremely easy to do. It isn't a literal signature. With my jj keller simply submitting my log once a day qualifies as an electronic signature.

Your Log in ID and Password "acts" like your electronic signature. At the end of the day you "Certify" your log and your login credentials are your electronic signature. FMCSA is vague about defining the "Electronic Signature".

BTW,, I just called JJ Keller to verify how their E-Logs work in regards to the Electronic Signature.

There is some fine print right below the submit button that says something to the effect of "by submitting i certify that the RODS is true and accurate".

Another useless comment from someone who wouldn't make a pimple on a "Cow Boys" butt. This all goes back to Jimmy Carters "Motor Carriers Act" of 1980. I started trucking in "74", and I AM one of those whom you choose to denigrate sonny. We had far less accidents and incidents compared with the mass produced steering wheel holders of today, AND, we were a cohesive community that helped and looked out for one another. Next time you feel the urge to opine, pick a subject you know something about...

Nice emotional statement. Unfortunately the stats say otherwise.
As far as that cohesive community goes... it was a nice tight nit bunch, as long as you went with the majority. If you dared to go on your own and run when or where teamsters said you shouldn't you risked getting shot.

I don't know why anyone doesn't want to be part of you're community anymore, with that attitude...

here is are 2 very simple examples of why the ELDs are bad
If im stuck in traffic for an hour or 2 at 4pm then im not going to log it that way, im still going to drive the extra 2 hrs and get where i was supposed to be. BUT the ELD will tell me i went 2 hrs over and there is nothing i can do to change that fact.
2- if im sitting at Wallmart, Amazon, or somewhere and dropped the trailer for a few hours, i go in the sleeper, but if i moved the truck to say drive around the warehouse to chek on my trailer or use the bathroom the ELD just put to driving, i would never do that.
So tell me again how the ELD is great??????
