Checking in again, Ive neglected this forum a bit.
First week, Myself and another gentlemen showed up bright and early.. We did some paper work were given and outline and developed a schedule. From there we did a pre-trip and got straight in the drivers seat.. Starting with a straight line back and a passenger side parallel park and practiced shifting the 10 speed.
The other kid didn't do so hot and was getting frustrated. I explained I had been driving trailers and kind of knew what to expect as far as correcting the track. He was a bit of a buzz kill. However, the next day. I took the morning segment ( we agree'd I'd do 8-12 and he'd do 12-4) Day two we went did our morning pre-trip and then got directly onto public roads. I was terrified. But, did O.K for it being my second day. Alot of grinds and missed gears and little mistakes.. But, kept the pup in between the mayo and the mustard.
I stayed a little over that afternoon for when the other gentleman in my class came in to just go over the Pre-trip again and hang out (I'm not local and had nothing else to do) It was time for him to get on the road and I went to part ways. I sat in my car trying to decide if i was going to adventure and explore somewhere or go straight to my "Air B n B" I look up and the truck is parked by our cars and the other guy is walking to his car and the instructor is shaking his head and approaches my car. Tells me the other guy washed out and asked if i wanted to play around for a couple more hours. I agree.
The next 3 days were spent doing maneuvers and driving all over the Hudson valley. Country, City, Highways, Curves, everything. It's a pretty scenic area. Each day I got better at shifting which is my biggest problem. Double clutching. I drive a standard already and have been for about 5 years. So, It helps but then also hurts.
I went home over the weekend to my home town, 3.5 hours away. Monday, was a video an quiz day. The only "Classroom" work we really do. My instructor is great. He's all about being behind the wheel.
Today, we did mountain climbs and descends. Learning to gear down before entering sharp 10/5 mph curves. It was very scenic. It's pretty laid back I can stop when I want and take a break or eat or what ever. It's not paid so, I'm glad its not torture.Tuga Trucker Thanks this. -

Didn't really go for this one either since it would've entailed dealing with a team operation. And the other one, not having the same days I've been used to for the past couple of years. The poking around continues!!

As far Old Dominion and Saia in Albuquerque, no contact from either of those two.
Estes, my application goes through, but I keep getting emails that the Albuquerque and Phoenix positions keep getting filled.
I don't really feel like dealing with another, out-of-state, change my license over again, move. -

Uhh, Again today.. Pre-Trip, Parallel parks driver side and passenger side.. Drive all around Orange County NY. Trying to find the tightest turns possible.. Return to do some offset backs and Alley docking.. Reviewed paper logs.. Pretty much all the same each day.. Each day things become much more fluid and more muscle memory.. Barely grind gears anymore.. Maybe 3-5 times in an 8 hour period. Sometimes downshifting I can't always make 5th gear as fast as I should. Part of it is because I feel like I'm holding up traffic slowing down so early in essence.

Just remember when your driving your working don't let people in cars make you make a bad decision you wouldn't go to their place of employment and try and make them work faster so just ignore inpatient butt heads.
