There were only two things in smoky and bandit that worked out the way they showed in that silly movie in my time out there. The fights here and there and the speedometer upside down at times. Those days are gone forever. Regulated beyond reason to like 55 or 60 mph in a texas highway where people fly by you at 85 to 100 plus in a 85mph zone. And the fights today would be frowned upon by the Law.

I'm somewhat scratching my head about these companies coming to the school job fair. I do think my son is going to the job fair to see his buddies and the people at the school that he knows and see what is being offered. I'll circle back when he tells me what they were offering. -
Glad to hear your son is doing well and is making great strides to do the career he wants. Take what these mega companies say with a grain of salt. They are going to make it sound great just to put someone in the driver's seat. If it didn't work out at his former company there are usually lots of others that might hire your son but from what I learned going to CDL school... UPS or FedEx won't hire big truck Class A drivers unless they've had 1-2 years OTR experience but the LTL company sounds like a good opportunity. I was offered the chance at one called Lyndon and regret not finding a way to sign on with them. Had no personal vehicle at the time and they were about 50 miles away.

Something doesn't smell right with that LTL company. If it was me...id be asking a whole lot more questions.
Sounds like this "manager" is more like a recruiting mgr , and those people are salesmen...born liars.
But, sometimes, people need to learn the hard way that they have been lied to, and then, before they know it, they are on their 3 rd job in less than a yr, and are considered "job hoppers".
I would tread very, very carefully. Trucking companies are not known to be honest.
Just my .02, though. -
Appreciate that, and this job may not work out, but my son brought the business card home of the manager that interviewed him on Saturday and he is indeed the Terminal Manager (I think that was the title, he is the top person in charge at the location my son will be working out of). Hopefully if the job was misrepresented and turns sour he will find out fast and quickly and that won't be held against him. I guess at this point this is in bigger hands than ours.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
Sounds like hub or utility driver position. If so he will work the dock on both ends to get his hours. -

I'm with ALL of the above *except the naysayer* regarding the Estes job. Evie, that's a gift that our ONE above is handing you, with all of y'all's perils. I believe that, wholeheartedly. Foot in the door with a better than average company.
Many of the newbies would be chomping at the bit. Heck, you heard @tscottme ... tell your son to hurry~!
Our Estes in Mansfield, Ohio is fully automated.... even pallet jacks are motorized. Can't speak for your place, but just what I've seen. (ps: In Ohio, we call Forklifts "tow motors" .... how stupid is that?!?) <<<< Just a little trivia to make you smile. You seem like a really great mom.. your kids are lucky to have you. I have a great one, as well....... and my wife is the best blessing in my life, even tho she makes me eat my veggies.
Kudos to you, Evie. Wishing your son the best; I'm still on the Estes bus, for sure.tscottme, x1Heavy, Banker and 1 other person Thank this.
