I don't know what you're going on about. I have a job, I pull tanks and do just fine. Years ago when I did work for Knight, they paid for my room, food during orientation. I've said this like three times already.

Knight is the reason wages are so f**king low. Why don't you people understand this?

Knight may be part of the reason, until guys quit accepting slave wages it will continue. The part that gets me is everybody has an I'm entitled attitude. Surfer boy or whatever his handle is feels he should get paid just for showing up.

    Great analogy!

    So, using this flawless and sophisticated logic;

If Burger King hires me and expects me to complete a training course located halfway across the continent from my home, I therefore should be 'grateful' if they are so kind as to pay me fifty bucks a day for ten hours of daily classroom instruction. Add in the fact that they might also be so kind as to pay for my travel on a cheap 'red eye', as well as for my lodging in a fine, upscale motel like Motel 6 and I've really hit the lottery, man!
And all this to work for a company that pays far below minimum wage to work and to live like an animal.

Really, I should be paying them for the experience.

Yeah, I know, loafers such as myself really want it all for nothing.

    Gimme' those entitlements...
Like my Social Security when I retire....
Even though bums like me have been forced to pay thousands of dollars a year for the past forty years for it.

Well Surfer boy, it's well known that Knight is a bottom feeder company, they and others offer to transport, house and feed you because they are desperate to meat in the seat, so if you're applying there you are either new to trucking, have a bad driving/work history record, or are just desperate. In my life I have had 4 jobs, all good jobs, not one paid me to apply, and nobody after me got paid.

OK here is the latest and greatest with the 3 day orientation, Very straight forward fast paced presentation on what you need to know about Knight and their policies. There was a mix of people in my class of about 25. Some going to the CDL school, some old employees returning to Knight, some coming to Knight from other companies. Drug test is urine and hair. There is a work fitness test involving weights and some lifting. A test of your heart rate resting and working. A Smith Driving System class and opportunity to do a little driving and demonstrate your knowledge of it. Benefit packages are distributed and you get to meet a couple of the higher officials of the Co. Road tests are given to the experienced drivers. Some had to go with trainers depending on the amount of experience they had They have a new division hauling logs and wood chips in N. AZ. no log experience needed, they have some day cabs for that.

If everything goes according to script you'll be done by Wed. afternoon and you'll be be paid for those 3 days. Some people had problems for various reasons usually involving their old companies and employment verification.

I am a new CDL holder and I went to Knight transportation orientation and I was $300 for 3 days. I was sent a bus ticket going to and from orientation. I was also provided with breakfast and lunch. It was a hurry up and wait but it was worth it, I came home for 2 weeks to take care of some business, but I will be with a trainer soon.

Y'all are a bunch of sad sacks that enjoy getting a train run on you. Last job I had paid over $150 a day (hourly) for all time spent. Shameful, just shameful you all don't have enough pride in yourself to make money and charge what you are worth.

Glad to hear that Knight is raising it’s orientation pay adjusting for inflation.
The OP wrote the original post on this thread several years ago; back then the orientation pay was about $65.00 a day for three, ten hour days.
Now, it’s gone up to a whopping $100.00 a day for a ten hour day. That’s $10.00 an hour with no overtime....of course.
You’re willfully letting yourselves be robbed if you even show up for orientation.
Move on; this job is easily replaced.
