The Feds don't inspect our lights so unless you are manufacturing a vehicle for use on public roads or are driving in a State that fully adopts the Federal Standard with no additional rules of their own that book is nearly worthless.
So I keep all the #### lights working and let the highway lawyers find out the hard way if that's what they want to do. -
And if you want to keep all of your lights working, that's your prerogative...but it isn't the law. The law is very specific as to which lights are "required". The law is also very specific when it clearly states that auxiliary lighting NOT required by the regulations do no have to be present, nor do they need to be functional if present. It doesn't take a lawyer to read the clear language of the regulation and know what it means. Is it wise to keep all of your light working? Sure. No point in giving a cop a reason to stop you for a closer look. Is it required? ONLY if the light is required by the regulations does it need to work.

Chicken lights are the extra lights you see on trucks. They're aftermarket lights and are there for show.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
