Hi, son started a new night job on Tuesday and passed out around the time I left for work this morning. Got his CDL in January. During his first 3 month job he drove a Freightliner, so he is familiar with that. Drove a Kenworth for the first time the past 2 nights and it was a bit of a learning curve with the different controls and how the truck reacted, gas pedal and all that. Did fine on the highway, not as good on local driving. The truck actually stalled at one point in second gear, which he said would have never happened with the Freightliner. It's a good thing that he's getting familiar with how to handle a Kenworth so he won't have a problem with that in the future. He is actually going to be driving an International on the account they are assigning to him and said it would be helpful if I asked if the controls (fuel pedal, clutch, etc) on an International are similar to a Freightliner. I think that is what they are actually going to road test him on. Thanks everybody.
Freightliner vs. International

You can put 5 identical trucks together and every one of them will drive and shift a little different.
Not so much the brand of the truck other than the controls may be a little different.
Between a shaker and International I would rather drive the International if it did not have a MaxxForce boat anchor engine...
But,He should have no problem with the International...Easy to drive.Spartan0229, G13Tomcat and Evie3 Thank this. -
Yeah each truck is a different animal....
For example I had my ecm adjusted from automotive to variable speed... took a while to get used to ONLY PUSH THE FUEL A ITTY BITTY BIT lol.... before had to give it good to make it go. Now it's like it has about a 1/4 inch throw in it... except when you really want it to move then you gotta hammer it. In the beginning I didn't care for it but now that I'm used to it I like it better. Drives like a truck now -
The differences aren't enough to make ya stall in a gear.
Only differences is learning where the buttons are....a ten speed is a ten speed. He'll get to the point where he can just listen and shift. -
EZ Money's right when I started out I got lucky driving the Internationals.

Very easy to drive...even tho i liked my t680 more then my prostar....but the t680 wad brand new lol

The Prostars are probably my favorite truck as far as driver positioning. I'm a big dude (6'5, 350) and with the seat all the way back and in the floor I still have ample leg room and don't feel like I'm sitting on top the steering wheel lol. Only thing I dislike is the shifter on those, all the kinks and curves makes it funky to shift til you really get used to it.

It's like asking how a Ford drives compared to a Chevy. Basically no difference, just have to get used to the different placement of knobs and such.
Bo Hunt Thanks this. -
driving a prostar while my cascadia is getting fixed. prostar a/c sucks, headlights suck, shifting sucks. seems to be better at backing than a cascadia. t660 shifting sucks, paccar sucks. overall i like the cascadia better
-
Hated my prostars because of the a/c issues. Drove ok tho.
I despise the gas pedal in the auto KW's at my company.
Loved my volvos but they breakdown alot.
Driving an absolute pos freightshaker atm which I have to put in the shop once a week...but it drives ok if you don't blow your brains out from the constant rattling.
I've only driven a mac once or twice and never have been in pb.Spartan0229 Thanks this.
