if I get a CDL with AUTO restriction will Stevens hire me? since most new trucks are auto and most trainers like autos because of fewer things to worry about.

I know manual but for the road test will pick auto so its easier to pass.
    Thanks

In one of his posts @TripleSix made the statement that there is nothing wrong with preferring an auto but there is everything wrong with not knowing how to handle a manual. To expand on that a bit, why limit yourself straight out of the gate. Take your test in a manual and then go drive an auto if you choose. I drove an auto in my first job...never again.

    I'm a trainer, I don't like autos.

Best way to ruin a new driver, stick him in an auto out of the box.

Spend a lot of time retraining people who have forgotten how to shift. It's a perishable skill.

How? Know someone that'll let you take their truck? You said you knew manual. Row the gears and forget restrictions.

Shifting a manual is not rocket science. Grandma had to double clutch! FFS! Are we really recruiting from the shallowest end of the gene pool? The training schools are dumbing people down? All drivers should train on manual so they are prepared for whatever equipment employer offers.

Depends if they have automatics. Find a company that does. Otherwise they will probably try to find an automatic for you to drive or with a trainer I guess. I was told to find a company that has automatics because my downshifting was a bit rough but try to get experience with a ten speed.

It does not matter how many gears a manual has..If you can shift a 8 speed you can shift a 18 speed. Why are people intimidated by technology that has been around for 100 years?

    Okay, story time sir.

So I went to a trucking school, American Truck Training in Oklahoma City to be exact. They only had manual trucks. If you are already in school ask the instructors on more time to perfect your shifting. It doesn't matter of you have an awful downshift, what matters is not grinding the gears and stalling the truck.

If you are not in school already, do yourself a favor and go to a school that already has all manual trucks. Your school should be trying to push you to drive a manual. As far as the retest fee of 8k you need to look into that, that can't be right. That's the price of tuition.. retesting fee for me "if I failed my 3rd time my 4th test was 150$".

I know at the school I went to there were alot of lazy learner's, meaning that theyrather sit around smoking and not moving the truck. I'll tell you that I failed 2 times and I should have failed my 3rd but was able to play the technicalities game with the examiner. They are not there to fail you, they are there to license you but can't just hand it over.
