That info is worthless. Like Spyder said, big box brokers reporting what the are getting loads moved for.

As a brand new authority my access to freight is limited with many brokers requiring at least 6 months active. Over time my rate will probably go up with more access to freight. 1.80 all miles are greater is my goal. It seems I will be able to maintain that. This broker I'm pulling for lately is out of my home town, keeps me moving, the rate is what I want, and he is the one calling me. The only load I've done the calling on was the first one I pulled. He calls me with his plans and asks me when I can be there and what rate I'm looking for. In my position, I consider this a great opportunity.

Just be very careful putting all your eggs in one basket. He goes belly up, so can you. Dealing with the same guy can be beneficial, but don't extend too much credit to one guy.

Keep doing what you're doing, I think just starting out you are doing ok. You seem to have your head on straight. Don't let some of these Debby Downers rain on your parade. My projection, in time with some experience under your belt, you'll bring that average up. Nobody I know of started out setting records, and if they had, they would still be out on their own, not leased to a carrier.

And I second the post above about not keeping all your eggs in one basket.

So tell us where you get your accurate market rates then if you believe those rates are all made up by the big box brokers.

@spyder7723 no harm no foul. I get where he's coming from. Like I said, over time, I feel the rate will climb. My options are limited here in the beginning.

    SheepDog and spyder7723 Thank this.

Knock on some doors, ask some questions, be nosey. I don't pull reefer, never have, but I got friends that do. They get WELL above those rates even from brokers. I also have a friend who retired as shipping manager of a large meat slicing company. Nothing left the dock for less than 3.00 per mile. All I'm saying is, you can't base rates on what a load board says you are supposed to be getting. I'm not knocking him at all, starting out is not easy. But, brokers love new people, they think you are desperate, they are keeping a Large slice of the pie off him. I'm only trying to help, not downing him at all.....

Comparing a brand new MC with someone that's established is just silly. He's said several times in here his rates will go up in time. It's amazing how fast people forget the days they were green too.

Reading average rates on load boards is silly too but people believe that BS. I am only trying to help, don't mean any harm at all. I just hate seeing people haul freight too cheap, it drives the rates down for everyone.....

    I'm out.
