It all depends on perspective.
I personally like Elogs in that there is never a risk of one of those goofy little error that can happen like a log not signed, not dated, etc. All those little things that an LEO can play games with. If I were ever involved in a major accident, it would provide a level of protection from some ambulance chasing lawyer in a law suit. And the best documentation available for many other purposes like substantiating days out and such for IRS filing. All of these things can be done on paper, sure, but Elogs provide a more detailed and less manipulatable level of documentation. No entity could ever say I was falsifying anything or lying. And it is just plain simpler.
After doing paper since '82, I had no problem moving myself over to Elogs a few years ago. Have had no negative effects in doing so, and there were the positives that I mentioned above. I really could give a rip about what others do in this regard. I am not for or against Elogs for anyone else. I just sit back and watch those that hate them rant and wail against them, and let other who actively support Elogs try an justify why everyone should use them. Both sides looking a little ridiculous in their arguments sometimes. Those that don't like them will lash out against those that do in a almost childish comical way. Those that do support Elogs trying to make those that don't like them look like renegades and law breakers that are bent on making everyone else unsafe. It is getting fun to watch, and will become more entertainment as we get closer to the mandate deadline.

The ELD's just keeps drivers and companies honest. What you are having a problem with here is the Hours of Service.
Dharok, peterd, MidSouth and 1 other person Thank this. -
Check out my thread here guys about fighting the ELD mandate.
The fight againts ELDs,A large number of drivers forming. -
Well if we all On ELD there is no more revenue stream for troopers to write tickets for logbook violations or hos violations!! So where are the going to get us written up for then to create revenue!! Wrong color socks !!
Hulld and HopeOverMope Thank this. -
Equipment and other violations. Nebraska, last week, decided to get a jump on the big inspection blitz that is to occur in June, and of 100 inspections they found 339 violations. Quite a few drivers didn't even have valid CDL's. Lots of brakes and other equipment violations. There is a lot of folks playing fast and loose with the regulations, so log violations not being relevant because of ELD's will barely make a dent in the revenue stream. All the states have to do is pull these "surprise" inspection blitzes and really rake in the cash.
Holland Duck and EZ Money Thank this. -
Well they need the revenue coming in! It will and could get worst if we all have ELD in our trucks so no more log book violations!!

OMG the level of statists on this post in insane. Taking it without Vaseline from big daddy government without questions. In fact, being convinced that is good for you...

This whole thing reminds me of the "Reefer Madness" propaganda films put out in the 30's lol
HullD you seem like a really cool, successful, self made, genuine go getter, that has activated his American dream- and secured it. My hats off to you sir.
One thing you could do for sure if you were up for it, is to sell your ride and replace it for a 99' or pre. But being that you haul cars, you may have the type of truck that has the built in overhead slot to haul that extra car and etc... so I know you guys are kind of married to those trucks, and they're a lot more expensive and harder to find older in good shape?Last edited: Jun 7, 2017
