My short hop cancelled but it worked out in my favor. I ended up getting another one that delivers 8 miles from my next pickup and it pays 825.00 on 160 total miles.

Backing in at the truck stop my red air line completely broke, hose separated from the gladhand. Another driver saw me messing with it and showed me you can cross the lines and use the blue and trolley brake to put air to the trailer. Had to stop a couple times to rebuild air, but it worked. Learn something new every day.

Thats a cool trick, things never break in a convenient place. Is being on your own a lot more of headache compared to being least to a company
TallJoe Thanks this. -
Congrats on starting your venture. I am looking to do the same but in the flatbed division. I want to offer a chance for other O/O to less onto my authority. Do you believe that is a good idea? -

This broker I used to get down here even paid 87.00 of detention. They had a policy in place with the shipper that held me over for 5 hours to get loaded. Paid me for two hours of detention. I wasn't expecting to get paid but they had it done and sent the new rate con in less than 10 minutes.
Deposited some checks and the accountant received a few others. Finally generating some cash flow. I haven't been factoring my invoices. I figure I'll go without it if I can and resort to that only as a last resort.Dave_in_AZ, redoctober83, Al. Roper and 1 other person Thank this. -
As for that detention, you got, IT SUCKS!!! When I send back a rate con, I always write on there my detention rate after the first 2 hours. I don't give 2 hours free, it's built into the rate I negotiate with a broker and before the broker sends over the rate con, he knows what my detention policy is. By the way, my detention rate starts at $20 per 1/4 hour rounded up to the next 1/4 hour. That puts my lowest detention rate at $80 per hour I sit. I expect to make a minimum $800/day on average while I am out here working.
Make sure when you are negotiating your rates with brokers you get your detention rate listed in there on each rate con. It'll save your ### later on down the road. -
