well, while my mechanic came by to help put my oil pump backbin i asked him about it. he said the old owner pulled the innards out to bypass, and probably added something so when the truck turns off by key, it also kills the ecm. sooo, what we did was put the innards back in from a new one i bought, and put the 12 volt thing on and added a wire.
i also noticed the wires to engine position sensor were terrible and bare. im sure they were touching or have been rubbing against each other. i seperated, cleaned, and put some liquid tape to cover them. going to get my steering pump in the morning and crank this thing up and see what happens.
N14 shuts down randomly

Your bare wires were probable cause of shutting off.
Good you found them, but you need a more permanent fix.
See if you can get some of that corrugated plastic protective tubing to slide over wires.
I got some good stuff one time that was a Kevlar woven tube, 5/8" dia. on a roll,
a buddy of mine was done with a build project, and was going to throw it out.
I said, "are you nuts; give me that!" I used it for about 15 years - on everything! Better around heat.
I bought my kid a 2006 F-350 8 ft. bed crew cab diesel pickup, and he had problems with hitting
a bump and it shutting off on him. would start right back up. It was chaffed engine harness wires touching,
We fixed it up for awhile, but then we bought a new harness and problem solved.
I truly hate wiring problems; my best fix is to cut and solder connection, slip sleeve of shrink tubing on before terminating end, and after heating it on, seal the ends with that same liquid electrical tape.
I've had some fixed like that for years with no corrosion.
Good luck on your start up. Hope there are no issues now for you. -
ECM power is take right from the starter positive post on those. Common for arch damage at the eyelets or corrosion at the plug near the starter. Check the fuses and terminals, should be two of them. Wiggle the wiring while it is running to see if you can make it happen and hopefully find a bad spot.

so ur saying the ecm is powered from the cable on the starter? ill check that out in the morning. i checked the cables to the starter and they were tightened up good -
About 95 was when they started routing the ECM power from the batteries.

and its down again..cut off on a load this morning. i unplugged the 2 fuses and replugged them from the starter. and unplugged/replugged the ambient air sensor (according to an online diagram).. and it turned on and got me home. funny thing is, everytime this happens, the volts read really low when im cranking it back up, then it goes up once it stays running.
not sure if any of the above has to with anything tho. i brought it back to the first shop i tried..see what he says
im running out of options.. -
Has to be something simple, just have to find it.
-
i sure hope so...in the last month ive replaced..
oil and filter
fuel filter
one battery (others tested good)
alternator
intake air sensor
engine position sensor
power steering pump (unrelated)
leaving the shop now, his diagnostic computet is out for repair...going to another guy i know to scan it.
im wondering if it could be ambient air sensor? i read in another thread those things could cause shut off and loss of power ( mine feels like its been robbed of power the last 4 months or so) -
Did you say you replaced the fuel solenoid or just reconnected the wire
