Can anyone please tell me the minimum requirements I need to do to in order to be legal and drive a truck home myself instead of paying someone to drive the truck home for me? Still waiting for OOIDA to call me tomorrow with a quote on the cost to have someone pickup and deliver it to my house. Do you know of a company and contact info you used in the past who you would suggest?

The truck is in Nebraska and I live in Florida if this helps.

Can I buy temp insurance until I put plates on and register it in my name, etc. ? I will be buying from an individual so I can't get a dealer temp... What's a way around temp tag if any?
How do I get past IFTA issues and permits required, or is this mandatory? Can I just stop at each state line and purchase one or go online and purchase ahead of time? Don't want to be put OOS.
Not ready to put it on the road as soon as I buy it. Will be approximately a month or two of down time with Florida registering and getting IFTA, etc. set up from what I hear to have her legally rolling under a load, that's from what others have told me to reasonably expect worst case, so this is the reason I want to know which is my best and cheapest option to get her home so I can go ahead and fine tooth comb clean her and go over it, change fluids get it set up with my gear before I run down the road hauling freight.

Any info or anything I may have missed is appreciated

    Thanks

I wonder if you couldn't slap a "Not For Hire" sticker on the doors and run it all the way.

You can get temp plates, but it is expensive for the amount of states you'll be running. If you will be leasing it, you may be able to get a hunter temp from your carrier.

All motor vehicles and trailers need registration to be on the highway. If he doesn't have a plate, the not for hire won't help that out.

I would call each individual state scales on the route and find out. After all, they are the ones who would bother you first.

A friend of mine and I were in orientation at a mega flatbed carrier. He and I were the only o/o. After we finished, and we got our temps, he didn't put his in the window, because it blocked his view. First scale he crossed, they DOTed the heck out of him, just because he didn't show his temp. Carrier terminated him because excessive CSA points in one go.

Had he put it in the window, he should have been ok.
