How To avoid these companies

Just wait for the day u get down to the end of a road like that an find out u gotta back all the way back out cause the roads blocked or theres a corner u can make

 

I drove on the road once before I went for my test. Since a kid I moved the rig on the farm I work on, pulled it up to get loaded with shavin, then horses, then after a show mucked out the trailer then parked it. Never trained by anyone but myself.
Oh an I got 100% on the test, pre-trip an driving. Dang long time at 2 hrs for a test... couldn't believe it.

 

We don't get any interstate driving its all city and downtown. So far I have been pulling a 53' trailer the whole time too. Only hit 3 curbs so far and one of them I couldn't have made no matter. Pulling back into school if there are cars parked in the first 3 spots you can't make it in with the 53 without hitting the curb. We get a 48' on test day so that should be a breeze after what I am used to. Going to have an automatic for test day too which I am not wild about but at least I won't get any points for missing a gear.

 

Well then, ...................... I won't tell you about the time I followed my co-driver's instructions to a "T", which were -----

Get off the interstate and turn right.
At the first street, which won't look like a street you should turn down, --- but it is, --- turn right on it and take it to the end.
That's where the terminal is.

What he forgot to mention was I should go ACROSS the street before I made the next right turn.
But the street I turned on DID look like a street I shouldn't turn on. And after I did, something told me I'd made a mistake, so I DIDN'T "take it all the way to the end".
I stopped, and woke him up, --- asking if this was the right street.

Where the hail ARE we? he asked.
I explained.
And he then realized the mistake in directions he had made.
Then we had to figure out HOW to get out of that situation.

BTW, I also won't mention we were pullin' doubles.
That day I learned doubles don't really back all that well, and we wound up having to break them up, back across a major street, and reassemble them in a parking lot --- at night.
But had that happened during the day when there would have been major traffic and a full parking lot, .......... well, ........... I don't even wanna go there.

 

Hey all ya'll excited about going to drive the big rigs....Just remember that "the day you stop learning out there is the day you will die" Also remember all the good times, as it gets lonely out there even if you work for a good company. "Truck Driving is a job that chooses the person not the person choosing the job." You are in for alot of long hard days, and you can't always go home with you want to. Wrong again. You can make it as hard or easy on yourself as you want to. Only you can choose who you work for. There are companies out there that offer a variety of pay, benefit and home time opportunties. If you want to stay out, go otr. If you want some home time, look at regional. If you want to be home very night, look at local.

 

Regional is what I am looking at but Jobs are slim pickins right now. I will probably end up at TMC as they are the only ones that have given me a prehire out of the 12 or so places I have applied.
