First time I did the forearm roller exercise, second time I wised up and did the half turn method. Third time I just let loose a guttural bellow and the landing rose in utter terror.

As to the tandems- today I was guilty as charged with being lazy and not sliding them up. Picked up an empty, straight shot to the highway, straight shot from the highway into the pickup which requires tandem slid back, total trip of 13 miles. I felt guilty the while way.

 

Tandem placement is my cryptonite. Unless I'm told at a shipper or receiver to slide all the way back I actually place them at the 40 for the next driver. Thinking it's a OCD thing but I can't help it. All the way back on the road. Nope. For the love of door swingers, that's simply irresponsible. Show some respect for yourself.

 

I don't get this either. I have found that for 90% of the loads I've hauled in order to be legal on the axles you need to be between holes 10 and 14. The shortest I ever had in order to be legal was hole 6. The longest was hole 14.

Because of this I get really confused when the tendons are all the way up or all the way back.

 

It just dawned on me that I think this is the only time Ive even saw Roger swear on here.

I stopped caring about these idiots that steal red tagged trailers. SNI refused to discipline them. I found an empty at the Grandville, Utah, Wal-Mart DC that someone had ran over one of those big decorative boulders with. One side skirt was barely hanging on. All 4 brake canisters were damaged, with the first 2 leaking air. Both axles where banged up. Tension bar (I think thats what its called) was broke. I called our shop, told them aboit it and sent them pics. I was confident that I could bring it back to the north salt lake yard safely. So I brought it back. The shop manager met me in the yard after I parked it. I showed him the damage and we red tagged it. I disconnect and walk into the office to show my DBL the pics and see if anything can be done about the POS that said "no defects "

As I'm talking to him, a mechanic comes up and asks where I dropped the trailer, that he can't find it. Mind you, I've been disconnected for less than 10 minutes.
We walk outside. The spot is empty and the tag, which described the damage, is on the ground. The trailer gets taken up to P&G in Bear River. Everynody thought it was funny in the office. Even Mr. Polyester pants safety guy.

Don't wear your safety vest in the yard, cardinal sin.
Take a red tagged trailer and endanger the general public. No problemo

 

I've run into loads that were loaded so poorly that I was unable to get legal with the tandems slid all the way forward, and all the way back. All while legal gross weight. It does happen. With the size of the trailers on the road today it is easier to load it heavy in the nose, less common to be heavy on the rear, but it does happen.

 

I had two loads recently that tandems had to to the rear to be legal. Good thing ga, Al, ms don't care of the tandems are all the way back.

 

The home Depot cross dock in Savannah is famous for this. Picked one up that was 76000 gross and 39000 on the trailer at 43'. Took it back and managed to put a bolt seal through my drive tire. If it wasn't for bad luck.....

 

I generally run with tandems all the way forward, unless weather determines otherwise.
