In my opinion an OTR driver should have a guaranteed daily pay of at least $200 or mileage, whichever comes out more. Provided he is available for work and does not refuse a load. At a local $20 an hour job you have to only work ten hours for the two hundred bucks.

My biggest pet peeve isn't even the pay but paying for an apartment that I only use three nights a month. I could literally spend those three nights in a posh four star hotel and still come out ahead of the 8-ball compared to paying the rent scam.

I don't think I could drive a dump truck though; too much dust, grime, and daily grind for my tastes. Making a grand a week and home daily how you like is doing pretty well. Try to address your boss regarding the potty mouth and stay where you're at.

I don't know where the OP is from, but I can tell you about the dump truck business in Houston Texas. This is not meant to be a racist comment, just stating facts. The whole dump truck business here is all Hispanics. They work for next to nothing. You would not be able to compete here, unless you are willing to work for very low pay.

the boss put another nail in the coffin today. he has a bra in his front loader, dont ask why i know it makes no sense. i was back at the yard putting some air in my tires. i go over to him to ask him a question. he tells me he thinks i left the bra in the front loader. i blew up at him. i told him im tired of sexual innuendos, being called a motherfbomb, and the general insults. he tells me be a "big girl". good grief

this morning i was doing a pre-trip. i was avoiding the boss, as i have been since he used the motherf towards me. he asked me what my problem was, i told him i really didnt want to talk about it. he told me to be a big girl.

i really have had enough of his mouth. i show up on time. my job is to safely haul loads, today i did 7 loads. i run my tail off to do that. he is a jerk, i still run my tail off and put a full day in. i do that to prove to myself that yes i am capable of doing this job and keeping up.

that's too bad, its still a skilled job. you have to be able to handle a load and not kill anyone. the job is WORTH some decent pay. its still a responsibility. there are no mexicans driving, not that i have seen. we actually have one woman around here that drives for serafini. i spoke with her, she has a class A and has had her license for 25 years, driving a variety of trucks. i even met a guy that was driving dump truck dressed like he was going to the office, dress shirt and everything. i personally think that's a little much, its professional BUT get put on a paving job and it can get dirty.

no question, this job at times can be quite dirty. the truck has A/C so i close the windows while at the quarry and that helps. paving is the most dirty.

Hey op, stop acting like a whiney little girl and you will no longer be treated as such.

Of course I'm starting to think the op is just a skilled troll. No one can be that stupid and whiney. At least I pray that's the case.

so his behavior is acceptable? sexual harassment is OK? i spoke with a driver from another company who used to work for my boss, just to make sure it wasnt me. he said my boss is aweful to work for.

im going to stay in the same line of work but going to find a company that doesn't involve blatant verbal abuse. in the meantime i would be happy if my boss just shut his ignorant mouth and allowed me to do my job to the best of my ability. i just ask to be left alone. there is no reason to suggest that the bra in the front loader is mine. stupid ignorant comment.

the only thing i wish to hear from my boss is work related. i dont care for the guy or his reputation but i will do my job to the best of my ability as long as i am working there.

Total troll. But he's hillarious. If he's an actual real, whiny, girly man I don't even know what to say.

But I have enjoyed his act so far- so there's that! I always try to be positive. Lol
