So i started at saia a couple months back at one of their smaller terminals..

    And i must say...its GREAT!

training -since ive never pulled doubles and i think everyone has to do it...was actually not bad at all...nice hotel.. trainer was cool and laid back but taught well...had alot in common..

Being in the system-well i cant really say much about this cause i ended up getting a bid run 2 weeks in cause no one wanted it...*cause they dont want to work hourly on a dock and do line haul....me? I dont mind*

My bid run-i come in for a couple hours and move trailers for a couple hours....then grab my trailers and head to my destination *only 155 miles*
Then when i get there i take my break..then work the dock for 3 to 4 hours til my trailers are ready

So i get 1500 miles and like 25 to 27 hours after drop pays blah blah blah...

Dock work and moving trailers around the yard-hasslin trailers WILL help you get back in shape...i love it... my knees might hate it but its good for me...my terminal is really tight...barely any room between trailers so you better have the landing gear barely off the ground when you back in....most bigger terminals arent like that...

The dock work isnt bad either once you get the hang of it....i like it cause its sorta like playing on a fork lift and seeing if you can fit 20 lbs of #### in a 5 lb box...and you dont have to bust your tail doing it either..

Insurance-CHEAPPPPPP and after 10 years they pay it for you

Vacation-hell idk dont have any yet lol

TIME FOR WHAT EVERYONE WANTS TO TALK ABOUT

THE CAMERAS- I dont mind it lol just do what your suppose to do...dont drive like an idiot and dont have a phone in your hand and you wont hear a peep from them....

THE WONDERFUL SLEEP STUDY-okay,this is interesting...so just a quick back story...i was at a small company *3 truck fleet* for a year...paper logs...do what i want..run how i want...sleep when i want..take the way i wanna go...you get my point..so coming here its not like that...i just cant pull over and take a nap...wad up some logs and start over..lol..i have a place to be in a short amount of.time....so for some #### reason on the way back to my home terminal...i would get tired...real tired...and im like wtf is wrong with me.....anyways so i went to do the sleep study...6'7 400lbs not your average size fella...so of.course i gotta do it lol....the sleep study was easy and not nearly as bad as i thought....so i do have sleep apnea...i have like 35 events an hour...BUT the masks are comfortable...*like 50 different ones to try* the machine makes zero noise.....and im sleeping and getting up better then i ever have!!! So hell yeah I'll wear it ....

So i will say....this is so far and i think will continue to be a great place to work....i told my TM i dont want to job hop.....i want to retire somewhere...and i think i found that place...

That's really great! You obviously have the intelligence to get help when you need it, (referring to CPAP,) and to do the job that needs to be done, whatever it may be! I'm with Chinatown and what he said in the post above!
Please keep us updated on what is going on there!

I second and third everything said here. Good for you. I saw you were going over there I was wondering how it was going. That's nice you landed a bid run so quick too. LTL's a good gig man you'll do well. You started at a good time, your 90 days'll be up come holiday time and you can cash in. Best of luck to you

Hearing the older, more senior people complain is in every company. I shut them up by asking, "Why are you still here if it's so bad?" and then give them the name of some other company to apply to. After that, they still gripe and moan, but not in front of me.

When I lived near Nashville, we had a driver that had been with the company 32 years and cried constantly. He always got the first new truck that came in. One time the new truck had something like 5 miles showing on the odometer and he threw the keys in the dispatchers face and screamed he wanted a NEW truck with zero miles.
That was the straw that broke the camels back. They started tracking him on all his runs and he kept going by his house. They caught him stealing meat and fired him.

I've had them say, "I won't give them the satisfaction of seeing me leave."

That guy they caught stealing was dumb. He drove a day cab and I drove a sleeper. Both had the same satellite tracking device. I used to go by the house too, but not for the purpose of stealing. I'd just take a break and maybe have a meal with my family. There is a truck stop at Exit 104 on I-65 which is about 3 miles from where I was living. I'd pull in to the truckstop and unplug the coaxial cable to the tracking antenna then go home. Later I'd go back to the truckstop and plug the coaxial cable back in. The tracking would show I was at the truckstop the whole time. The driving time to my house and all plus driving back to the truckstop wouldn't show. I'd log it as sleeper berth.
