How are O/O making a living at $1.00 a mile

    But you do and go where the boss man says. Majority of O/O don't, nothing like the freedom of calling the shots. If your financially responsible not in a bunch of debt, being a O/O is a beautiful thing. If I want to take a three day weekend I don't have to ask for permission. Some drivers get it and some don't, its not for everyone.

    Im averaging $2.30 all miles my cut after my carrier gets his share. It is a shame people don't do more research.

    Anyone running for a buck a mile isn't taking a 3 day weekend. Heck they aren't taking a 12 hour weekend.

    I'm not quite that high. I do a lot of deadheading which cuts in real fast when the dead head is from Montana to st Louis.

    I'm sure I will fluctuate and it will drop some. Luckily I haven't had a lot of deadhead so far. Taking a ####ty load to get out of Florida back to Georgia and back home for the weekend and that will hurt, but it works and helps me avoid working weekends. Lol

    They are slowly going broke and don't realize it. Once the tires are bald they fold.

    Funny thing is I can offer 1.50/mi loaded or empty and still not get all that many calls. I think the big megas name recognition gives people a false sense of security.

    Screw it. Since I'm bored sitting in a bay waiting for these hard working union types to unload me, I'll bite....

    It takes more than a buck a mile to operate a truck IF....

    ... You have to pay for all insurance and legal bs yourself.

    .... you have to pay pump price for fuel.

    .... you have to pay all tolls, lumpers, etc out of pocket..

    .... you have to pay for all repairs, parts, service, etc at full rate.

    Companies paying a buck a mile are providing all insurance except bobtail.

    They pay for plates, authorities, etc.

    They usually have decent fuel discounts.

    They have national tire and service accounts.

    Thier trailer, their dime to maintain snd repair.

    I ran for two years at 95cpm plus fsc. 15 months of that I was paying lease on a 3 year old tractor. It sucked at times. I ran my rear off most of the time. I also took a day or 34 about every two weeks to catch my breath. I took a week off about ever 30 days. I didnt go broke. I had a nice tidy chunk of cash from my maint account when I left.

    I don't recommend doing it at all, but it can be done.

    It can be done when you run a lot, like crazy 150 - 200 000k miles a year. I was one of such fools myself, until not too long ago. For 2015 I averaged less 1.5 a mile all odometer miles, and I took home over 90k, which should be comparable to what these people 1 dol a mile plus FSC should have made at the time too. But paper logs and crazy miles were a necessity. Only now, I can finally see that I can get the same take home amount if I do 300 miles a day, for 4-5 days a week. I mean this forum itself was a good eye opener, too bad I did not know of its existence until about 1.5 years ago, when some people here were showing they numbers, rates, saying what they thought about rates, if not directly, still i was able to read it in between the lines of their posts. It did influence me a lot, still does.
