Keep Truckin' App. Anyone using it?

I would contact Keep Trucking. That doesn't sound like an app problem though. I used that app when I was independent moving piggybacks and when I used that app I didn't have a lick of trouble.

 

I have a printer and MO told me I had to use it or else... So if I were you, I would get a printer. Also I've been using it for almost two years, love it. It's just a digital coloring book. Cautionary note, my phones gps has had me in the wrong place by hundreds of miles so be sure to check that you are really at where it says. I've also had it fill in gibberish (twice) on the form.

 

The regulations state that we must be able to print.

Spidey might find himself in trouble one day.

Nevada has always asked for my paper so he can examine in his car. California has for the most part also.

 

Either one, you have to be able to print. We've been over this 100 times on this site.

Question 28: May a driver use a computer, tablet, or smartphone (that is not an Automatic On-Board Recording Device) to create, electronically sign, and store the record of duty status (RODS)?

Guidance:

Yes. A driver may make manual duty-status entries to a computer, tablet, or smartphone program that is used to generate the graph grid and entries for the record of duty status (RODS) or log book, provided the electronically-generated display (if any) and output includes the minimum information required by §395.8 and is formatted in accordance with that section. The driver must sign the RODS (manually or electronically) at the end of each 24-hour period to certify that all required entries are true and correct.

1. If electronic signatures are not used:

• The driver must print and manually sign the RODS daily.
• The driver must have in his or her possession the printed and signed RODS for the prior seven consecutive days (if required on those days).
• The driver should be given an opportunity to print and manually sign the current day’s RODS at the time of the inspection.

1. If RODS have been electronically signed:

• At the time of an inspection of records by an enforcement official, the driver may display the current and prior seven days RODS to the official on the device’s screen.
• If the enforcement official requests printed copies of the RODS, the driver must be given an opportunity to print the current and prior seven days RODS (if required on those days) at the time of inspection.

For automatic on-board recording devices, section 395.15 -

(3)(b) Information requirements. (1) Automatic on-board recording devices shall produce, upon demand, a driver's hours of service chart, electronic display, or printout showing the time and sequence of duty status changes including the drivers' starting time at the beginning of each day.

The officer may not request it. Most that I've dealt with don't but regardless, both the machine and you must have the ability to print. I got away with no printer for awhile, right up until I didn't.

 

Many phone and tablets ARE connected to the truck. They are full blown eobrs.

You should probably read the guidance written in the fmcsa. Phones and tablets are under the AOBR category and not the EOBR category.

 

Yes many aren't. But many are. You keep implying that none are.

 

How does that logic work? If its not connected to the truck, its neither automatic or on-board. Its merely digital logs that only know what you input.

 

Don't ask me how it works. I didn't write the rules. Nevada said my aobr requirements weren't met. And the rules weren't even started yet. For my laptop. Arizona said the same thing. When I started using my cell phone.

The ruling at that time was digitally signed and must be able to print. To which I printed and showed the officers. And they were all digitally signed. Yet I got a separate violation. For not signing. THE DVIR portion on the last day when the day wasn't even done.
