The reason fleets go Freightliner and Volvo is purchase price
Used trucks are a crapshoot,no matter how much you check it out it can crap out on the way home. If your looking at a dealer find out wher they get their trucks detailed and go look at some as they come in, not after detailing.
They remove tires with funny wear patterns, clean oil leaks and get the stink out of the cab, they make them all look nice no matter how bad they were.
I've got 8 years as a company driver.I have an opportunity to buy a truck.

An older freightliner with a Detroit 60 series is hard to beat. You aren't paying the peterbilt/ KW premium, and the 60 series is cheap to own and operate and is a great motor. I'd go late 90's.

Don't diss Honda, by comparing them to freightliner, I have 2 of them. -

KW/Cummins as long as you don't fill it up with "gas".

Looks like the Detroit Freightliners are winning this thread over. While I do like the Hopper Bottom idea,I'm not sure how popular that is in Virginia.Although freight basically sucks in Virginia anyway.Maybe I should consider moving.

I'm sorry but I'm not looking for any kind of down payments, loans,or lease purchases.JL of Indiana Thanks this. -
I guess I should have been a little more clear.....I used to work flatbed, but I think I would just rather do dry van this time around.I have a few problems with my knee that could prevent me from securing,or tarping the load.Lepton1 Thanks this.
