Husband and wife thinking about getting own authority!!!

Maybe one could use his/her insurance as a leased on carrier? Would that suffice? There are loopholes everywhere. Just have to find them.

 

I had someone do this and one carrier went down the drain so did the other one, most insuance companies consider them as the same company when everything is said and done, even dot will carry over the scores from one to the other, i would highly advise against it.

 

Having one truck is hard to run on your own authority. However, with the right expense, this can also be lucrative. Make sure your credit is good and get a good corporation. One more thing. Make sure you find a good accountant. This will save you a lot in the wrong run. Good Luck

 

You will book a load, no worries there. If not in Pa, you deadhead to OH and book it there. Teams are in demand already. California - Midwest / East Coast produce lanes should be in high demand for teams.

 

If you get your numbers just to age the registration, list yourself as a private carrier to avoid the insurance requirement. Then switch to common carrier when you start running.

 

Do you have good credit?
Do you have enough money for a down payment?
Do you have enough money to buy a trailer or put a down payment for one?
Do you have enough money for repairs (if buying used)?

There are a lot of other good questions but those 4 would be the most important.

I drove for a guy who was hard headed like that. He knew I wanted to buy the truck, I knew he wanted to sell it. We went back and forth over pricing and if he would actually let it go.
We struck a deal and then he backed out again. I found a similar truck to buy from someone else for the same price.

Given my history with the gentleman I decided to give him one more chance to sell. I called him on his BS and told him if we can't trade cashiers check for title TODAY I was giving the money to someone else. That afternoon he signed the title over to me.
