ELD loss of efficiency plus more

One of my east coast pals who swore he was done and went local is already back under his reefer ...that local thing lasted bout 6 weeks .lol

 

It's tough man. It's excellent being home, but even driving the same territory daily, the amount of incredibly BAD drivers you interact with is incredible. Traffic. I make 150% more at Landstar than I did at Schneider doing local.

 

The same guys that drive down the rates will never park the truck because they have made money and blown it, or they have always run cheap and slowly died. Either way, they can't manage their money, and don't have 2 nickels to rub together.

The key is a good freight base and dispatchers who arnt lazy and planning your trip .

 

I don't think that many customers know much about what is means paper vs elog. The funny thing is that not long ago a receiving lady was complaining that a driver stopped to take a break in Morris, IL in the middle of the day instead of bringing their needed freight before the end of the day to Romeoville, IL 20 miles away or so. She though he was sabotaging them or doing it out of spite. Ha Ha Ha! I said he must have been out of hours, but it did not seem to make much sense to her. The market will tell them to pay more if their customers stack rooms are empty while the shippers warehouses are overflowing.

 

There is a receiver here in Phoenix that got a lesson. Wanted to play games.

When Landstar knocks, it's like that giant BONG. BONG. BONG. You see in the movies or cartoons lol.
This dude would have put me over on my 14, and made miss the next appointment, thus putting a bunch of other appointments back from Friday, until Monday.
Within, ohhhhhh 2 minutes of hanging up with the agent, I had a door and was not only unloaded, unloaded in record time lmfao.

 

I just think, that I'll give them 2-3 hours at a pick up and if there is nothing changing, trailer is still empty, I just go. That's what I did at Kraft Foods in Edwardsville, IL, but they kept me there for 6 hours (1 hour left on my paper log 14) and there was a sign at the shipping office "no overnight parking" I called the broker, let the shipping guy know and left. Not that I won any battle, just wasted time for nothing (their TONU - they can shove it) but it is just a sample of what's ahead.

With everyone on the same page, how is it a "loss" exactly? If everyone loses an equal amount because of the mandate, then rates will balance out slightly higher and customers will either grin and bear it, or go with the fly by night company and risk the freight loss.

And I still don't understand the complaints about the ELD. Oh no, keeping truck drivers and companies honest. Complain about the Hours of Service. The 14 hour rule is the problem (it should merely be total number of hours driving per 24 hour period).
