At least with these union trade gigs, you're pretty much on pair with the math savvy, tech majors pumping up demand for those god awful, condo apartments going up in many cities. Country life has been good, but the various bugs and excrement I have to deal with on these dairies is having some ill effect on my health.
Either a line haul gig where I'm far away from that, or a something dealing with non organic materials is par for the course.

Haha yup, that's what's going up is those #### condos. So many condos.

So you're a tanker yanker? That's what I do too. Maybe you'd want to haul chemicals or UAN since you're in farm country?

I lived in the country all my life.....made the move to the big city
two years ago. I make more money but traffic is bad, everyday. Traffic
backups due to accidents several times on many days. Housing costs
almost double, groceries about the same. I am doing the local route,
home every night......but 12 to 14 hour days.

There are more jobs available but there are more people looking
for work too. Seems the hiring criteria for most companies is worse.
In the country I could walk in about any where and get a job. Here
they are more concerned about college degrees, than actual
experience. If you don't know somebody in the company you will
    likely get nowhere.

I guess there are advantages to both.......but I sure miss living
in a "single traffic light" town.

A writer and poet; Charles Bukowski said to a student who asked him about choosing writing as a career
"Writing chooses you, you don't choose it."
    The same goes for trucking.

Wouldn't be too bad if it kept me on a more predictable schedule each night. I tried to stay on strictly shuttling trailers, but I get pulled to go load almost every night. More work for less money.

Oh I hate the traffic so much. Any day I'm driving truck in the city I usually leave work pissed off. Too many idiots driving with not a care in the world. We have non stop traffic jams too.

Yeah that's the thing. I've lived in the city my whole life, not even gonna lie, if I move to iron work it's because I know the right people to help me out.

I've thought several times about moving to the country but I just don't know if I could do it. I spend plenty of time out there working on my friends farm and just hanging out but I don't know if full time is for me.

Well, seeing how the line-haul gigs I'm trying to go for are in the city, I'd probably just have to worry about getting in and out of the city as I head out for a turn. Unless I'm stuck on some local P&D, I wouldn't really stress city traffic. Especially in some smaller city like ABQ or Lubbock. It's usually those "Class I", international, "hipster cities" like LA, Denver, NYC, SF., etc and their surrounding metros where the traffic is an unending nightmare.
All this walkability, bike-ability, and transit touted. But with the real-estate and landlord robbery going on, no one could actually afford to live within the 5-10 mile radius to commute car-free effectively and are forced to live in some far flung, car dependent suc-burb and join the four-wheel, rat race.

Yeah I mean when I'm driving in I'm going through Iowa city or something in rush hour I don't care.

But when I'm hitting Minneapolis rush hour where I live that's a whole different ball game. You aren't safe unless it's after 9pm and before 7 am.

Depends what region at hunt. On the money you make and and and you got to deal with.
    Upper Midwest wasn't so bad.
South East. Nothing but headaches. Usual comment is welcome to the south.
