Apparently it snowed around Eisenhower on I-70 today. The past 2 days have been cooling off rapidly. I guess I should check the bunk heater, but I've got a -40F sleeping bag and the AC we run from our APU also has heat as well.

With a -40F sleeping bag, you'd be cozy sleeping under the trailer. And no piss odor from the parking lot when it's cold!

Even in summer, we have always cold enough air to generate ice. When it gets big enough it's hail.

What's really interesting is we tried 15,000 feet once on a 90 degree day over Hagerstown Md in a Cessna 172. The best we could do was around 13100 to 13300 or so before the wings quit lifting, a bit of flap added too much drag at the speed we were at in max climb rate. It was a real hot summer day. I think it was around 84 knots indicated. That little bit of flap messed with what little stable air still flowing over the foils.

My APU is hooked to the engine. So it keeps the block warm. Turn key on, water temp is 150. I can't sleep when I'm too cold. Too easy to get sick as well. Anything past the mid 60's is too cold. I mean I set the gauge on 68, and the tri pac makes it ice cold even when it's 120 out.
Interesting set up though. It's all controlled through that one tri pac control. The Webasto has its own duct, separate from the ac ones. But when you yurn it on, the APU runs until the block is at temp & the batteries are charged fully. That thing is worth every penny.

They started making APU's roughly '88 for semis that I learned about in a trade newspaper called "The Trucker" it's a cute little paper stuffed with very good information, I relied on it for years. (Whatever happened to them anyhow...)

I Suggested to my boss to buy one and stick it on my tractor, sip 3 gallons of fuel a night to sleep or whatever all night instead of running that then monster cummins gulping god only knows how much fuel with the old style metal stick and trigger set up jamming the fuel pedal from the dash.... (Anyone remember that....)

    You know what he said?

TOO EXPENSIVE. $5000 dollars. TOO FANCY!!!! I'll be ###### etc etc etc etc.

Dinosaur dead on his feet years before the whole industry embraces those APU's

I think TTR replaced "The Trucker". I've not seen one in a year or so.

What's a bunk heater? Honest question.

I don't have an apu so I just idle with the heat on.
