These guys that think 100k oil changes are just fine.... put 2 same spec/mileage used trucks in front of them, one with a bypass and 100k oil drains, and the other with 10-15k regular oil changes and see which one they want. Especially with an ISX in it.

Well no matter what mine or anybody else's opinion on the thread is one thing is certain : oil will always be cheaper than metal .

Get your oil tested at a lab like Blackstone labs. They will send you test results that will show up any wear metals, coolant, etc

I have a Detroit & I do 30k mile service intervals. The engine has 810k on it & up until a year ago it was getting 50k intervals. The truck has never had an apu on it & I idle it all the time. I pulled an oil sample 8k miles ago when I did my last service & it was remarkable. I'm going to put an amsoil bypass filter set up on it just for the extra filtration but I have no intention at this time of extending my drains. But I'll never say never.

Ultimately, do what you're comfortable doing. Personally, I believe the manufacturers over a mechanic since they designed & built the engine.

    Hegemeister and bzinger Thank this.

I get Delo 15w40 at Wal-Mart for $28 for 2.5 gallons. My truck takes 11 gallons so is about $120 for the oil. My oil filter is $40 & if I'm changing my fuel filters also they are another $40 IIRC.

    77fib77 Thanks this.

I think we used to do the ISX's every 250 hours.
