Why is this a presidential political issue?

minimal wage is a social issue with no bearing on who is in the WH, congress is in control of it, not the president. It should end. It was a stop gap measure that screwed millions when it was implemented, drove up costs and put minorities at a huge disadvantage, it just needs to end.

We were much more prosperous without it.

I'm fine with placing the minimum wage one step past where the welfare state ends. I think that as long as we have a welfare state we need to have a minimum wage to stop the bottom feeder employers from using our welfare spend to subsidize their work force.

If we do away with welfare then the minimum wage can go away and be a free floating thing. In most places we've allowed the minimum wage to lapse through inflation. That's what's happened here. A 15 dollar an hour min wage in Louisville would get a shrug from everyone but retail and fast food.

I commented on Trump in response to someone else's post. I think our options in 2016 will be a historic low point for democracy in this country. I suspect that things are going to start changing because of just how gotesquely ####ty things have gotten on both sides. Both groups are 100% in the pockets of special interests who haven't got anything to do with either one of us. One of our candidates had very clearly been compromised for decades and the other was a card carrying one man special interest lol. He couldn't be a bigger scumbag rich person if he had a top hat and twirled a mustache. He's made a 'brand' out of embodying poor people's idea of how rich people live and act. Those of us who are actually in business know exactly what it means when someone refuses to show their tax returns whether we want to admit it to ourselves or not. None of us would ever buy a business that wouldn't show us their paperwork. His claim to being qualified was his business acumen, but near as I can tell he's provided zero proof and lies every third word he says. I don't understand why someone who has a long record of grossly inflating his own success is taken at his word when he talks about how much money he has and how successful he is. He wasn't even a ####### Republican most of his life. We've all been scammed.

Read your Adam Smith - high wages for workers and a small wealth gap is instrumental for capitalism.

Marx and Engles argued that greed would destroy this balance and thus capitalism was doomed.

I though we were supposed to be "uneducated" moron truck drivers lol. Seems like we are all smart enough to have a good debate going on here. Society's labelling truck drivers, they are wrong.

Sometimes I think we are the smart ones for not participating in the college industrial complex, another huge money grab. Student loans.

Exactly. We act like people who were born to drug addicts and got molested growing up need to buck up and pull themselves up by the bootstraps... But being heavily taxed on an inheritance larger than 5.6M dollars is much too much of an injustice for the wealthy. Those poor unlucky people. To have such a terrible burden at such a young age. I don't know how they will survive it but my prayers are with them.

EDIT: In this country we will send the person in the first example to prison for 10+ years for a non-violent crime, but if the state tries to touch that old rich guys kids money... It's the biggest injustice ever according to the GOP. That bothers me quite a bit.

Because any congress needs a 2/3 majority to overrule a presidential veto. That rarely happens. Of course you should know that so don't try to make an issue of it.

Nice one sided political talking point, but far from the truth. The national minimum wage was instituted to relieve poverty during the great depression not to disparage minorities or make "us" less prosperous. But good job on throwing out no issues to divert attention from the discussion.

As you should know only three presidents haven't sign a minimum wage increase. Don't imply presidential politics was not any part of that.Since 1938, Only Three Presidents Have Never Signed a Minimum Wage Increase

Do you even know what communism is? Are you aware that the middle class has been shrinking since 1973 and that the average worker makes less in a month than the average CEO makes in an hour? Wake up and turn off Fox "news" for a few minutes and read this.
