Voluntarily suspended my MC and now treated like a new carrier.

Why the heck did I get penalized for getting hurt and going down for 7 months? FMCSA=80.00 to reinstate even though I logged in and voluntarily suspended. Then PUCO charges 20 because the year that you pay for doesn't count if not continuous. Then, on top of these things, the brokers all see you as brand new all over again and have to manually bypass the "authority under 30 days" thing most of them have. And who knows how much visibility it may be costing me....which costs me!

And it is not like we have a choice...it saves some of us 100's or even 1000's of dollars if we shut down the insurance and suspend ourselves when we are going down for that long!

I would think this would be the kind of thing OOIDA would be irritated by.....

I had the same problem 2 years ago. Progressive forgot to send new insurance policy to the FMCSA. It took over 2 weeks to get my authority reinstated which was a battle with Progressive in paying me for being out of work for 2 weeks, I got $1500 for their mistake.

Brokers are just as dumb to read that information off the FMCSA website and then tell me "oh we can't use you because you have only been in business for a month." and I try to explain that I have been in business for 8 years but their too dumb to understand sometimes

WOW....new news to me. That just isn't right. How many years you got trucking?

I broke my leg and was out for almost 4 months. Never even though about suspending anything. I just kept on paying my unreasonable insurance every month even though I was at home. 15 years at it for me. Learn something new every day.

I have been at OO for 3 years only. I was just trying to do what I thought was the right thing! I got hurt and wanted to save money...simple. Wondering now!

I got $1000.00 back for taking my policy down to a $200.00 per year something or another (don't cancel it entirely that screws you even more it seems!) so for me it was 1k I would have paid for nothing...

Definitely not fair. Would like to hear their reasoning behind penalizing somebody for going on standby due to injury.

i normally take a few months off in the winter most years. i just drop all additional insurance down to minimums required by the fmcsa. take my time off pay the bills when they come in. when its time to go back to work i bump my coverage back up to customer requirements and go to work.
