You can deduct any work related expenses. That is on short form! Don't even have to go long.
I may even deduct the expense of a smart phone. I honestly have not, and cannot see, having a smart phone. Until... going trucking. Then I need it.Jmans and HD_Renegade Thank this. -
Hotels, paid showers, un-reimbursed parking, cb radio and tuning, tools, portion of cellular plan, certain specialized clothing like slicker or coveralls gloves for chaining and fueling

And don't forget the big one for OTR drivers ...
Standard Daily Meal Allowancemitmaks, augiedoggie41, tscottme and 2 others Thank this. -
I think the standard per diem deduction is $61 a day last I checked. HOWEVER, make certain your company does not calculate per diem in your check, that will nullify the per diem deduction when filing.
I can see saving receipts as an owner-operator or lease-purchase, but as a company driver, it's a lot to keep up with that's not really necessary. Just my $0.02. Your results may vary.tscottme and HD_Renegade Thank this. -

From doing some searching I found this. So for everyday you are on the road, you can claim $63.00 dollars a day ??
As of October 1, 2016, the special meals and incidental expenses (M&IE) per diem rates for taxpayers in the transportation industry are $63 for any locality of travel in the continental United States and $68 for any locality of travel outside the continental United States.mnmike Thanks this.
