Interesting phone call I received while being in route.

As some of you guys know, I've been trying to go back in active duty military to drive trucks. After about a year of trying to get in and dealing with three different recruiters from two different branches, my efforts finally hit a stone wall.

I met all the requirements, I lost all the weight, I have all the right experience, but each time I met a requirement to move forward, they all found a new way to sandbag me. Truth is, prior service members are the most undesirable recruits to sign up. Additional paperwork and in some cases... prior service wont even count towards their quota. Despite my best intentions and desire to serve again, the recruiters have blackballed me.

I connected with others that had the same frustrations. Multiple back to back deployments doing linehaul in Iraq and Afghanistan. Vehicle operators sought refuge in the civilian world with the hope to maybe one day return back into active service. I ended up taking action on behalf of myself and my fellow service members and wrote some people. I outlined my woes and the extensive number of barricades many of us vets had to endure.

I received a random lifeline. US Senator Jon Tester (D) MT, had his office call me. A phone call from his senior staff member... They are willing to petition the military on my behalf to get me back in. But they are also willing to advocate those of us that just want to serve again. I was floored.

Not sure why I am posting this on here. Maybe cause some of you guys know what I have been going through. Everyone on here has some cool story to share... sometimes its people just bitc#ing about their day and route. I think I felt compelled to post this on here cause we all appreciate each others stories. We empathize with each other and can relate.. and rejoice when things go great cause we can also relate.

Anyway, I thought I would share this. Have a great night

Its always good to hear about positive efforts by our elected employees. Make no mistake, THEY WORK FOR US.
We need to remind them of that from time to time.

I hope you can re-enlist RR. We need good service members like you. God bless You.

If one meets the standards, I see no reason at all why they shouldn't be allowed back in.

    On a different note....

Why is it that every single time I sweep my trailer out, the morning dock idiots always manage to make it look like it hasn't been swept for weeks??? :banghead:

Finally found a Volvo I like. It runs 70. I get it again tonight and tomorrow too, while I'm covering a schedule. Hammer down.

I’d keep that under your hat and don’t tell too many people.

I can't be having an Old Dominion passing me!

I've started to see it happen more and more these days though. Are those trucks rogue units, or are they turning you guys up?

All quite kosher. While the majority of our trucks are set at 65, there are a few set to 68 and a smaller few at 70. Those are for the really long runs. I've done this one in a 65 truck, but those extra mph really make a difference when there's another driver waiting on the truck so he can do his own big run.

Best part about it was a lot fewer bleary-eyed truckers trying to rub up against me as they pass but can't manage to stay off the zipper. Who knew lane control was so hard?

For some linehaul drivers, sleep is even harder.
