If you are going to itemize per diem, make sure your company don't split pay your per diem as my example earlier. The would be double per diem and illegal. Most big carriers are trying to get their drivers to agree to the split pay saying it will reduce taxes.

Why would anyone pay 3,000 more in taxes than they should?
Any OTR company driver that doesn’t claim the meal allowance is a fool.
My tax man charges around 200 to do my income taxes. They give me a worksheet to list my deductions too.
    Better than TurboTax

If your homeless as many OTR truckers are these days I wonder if you can even claim the $63x80% deduction at all.? Might ask your accountant on that one.

Why couldn't you claim it? It is my understanding that if you are in the truck, you can claim it ??

I don’t think work shoes and clothes are deductible.
Maybe a uniform rental fees might be.

Yeah you are partially correct i just googled this

"Deductible Work Clothes and Uniforms. You can deduct the cost and upkeep ofwork clothes and uniforms if you must wear them as a condition of your employment and the clothes are not suitable for everyday wear. ... This includes hard hats, safety glasses, safety shoes or boots, and work gloves."

Since most truckers wear jeans you can't claim it because you can wear jeans anytime. But you can still claim safety shoes, glasses and reflective vests and gloves from what this says.

    tucker Thanks this.
