Are there any training companies that don't make you run teams?

With Swift you will run as a team for much of your training period, then you can stay solo with no pressure to team.

This is an important consideration to make when looking for that first 'training' company. From my research and based on living in the Northeast, there were a few who don't make you team at all during training:
    1. Schneider - Ride with someone for a week or so, but no teaming. Trainer will be riding as passenger while you drive.
    2. Roehl - Again, trainer will ride as a passenger while you drive. Although you will have that trainer with you for a longer period of time. Their website claims that most people will be with a trainer for 19 days, but you will not be driving as a team.
    3. Veriha - Like Roehl, another Wisconsin based carrier who hires drivers with no experience and will not run you as a team during training. You'll be out with a trainer for approximately 3-4 weeks depending how well you do, but no team training.
    4. CFI - If you have been more than 60 days out of CDL school, CFI will require that you come in with at least 90 days of experience, otherwise they won't hire you.
    5. USA Truck - Was told that training lasts for 7,000 or so miles with a trainer in the passenger seat, but that wasn't in writing. On the USA Truck forum here, some other drivers have confirmed that it is not team driving during training.
Great question and one that I know most students are concerned with as well. I know when I do begin driving for a company, I do not want to team as well.

I feel you, I don't want to team either. I guess there are some extroverts out there that like it. Personally, I don't understand how anyone can do it after their training ends.

Sorry but I totally disagree with this. No one is going to treat me like this. I will not stand for this type of BS, and have dealt with people like that.

I need to clarify, even with your trainer at CFI you do not drive team. Your trainer is on duty in the jumpseat and you are in the drive line on your clock. Conceivably when you run out of hours in a given day he could still drive 3 hours. That's as close as you get to team driving.

If you are driving team with your trainer as they do in some companies, that means one of you is always asleep, where is the training, where is the learning?

Melton Truck Lines didn't used to.

They run a few teams now, used to be all solo drivers. I don't think their training has changed though.

Roehl trainers can and DO run students as team drivers. The trainer gets paid ALL the miles to the truck, so it is to their advantage to run teams. Either that, or a measly $60/day while the student is on the truck. Source: one of my aquaintences is a Roehl trainer, and I've talked to several other trainers as well as discussing the possibility of being a trainer myself with their Training Department.

Roehl is NOT the carrier they were right months ago. The old man stepped down (or was forced out), Junior's running the show, and the whole company is suffering for it.
