    Hi everyone.

OK, the reason i am asking about CFI is due to the laws in MA regarding CDL licenses. If I have to go to a company sponsored school that requires me to surrender my drivers license for a permit then trying to do the transfer back to MA after obtaining my CDL is very difficult. I have done my homework with the MA state police division that manages CDL.
No, I will not move to another state. My room mate is willing to take much less in rent if i go OTR and am gone for weeks. Ideal scenario.

I know that CFI, Roehl, and Celadon all require you to get your home state permit before you arrive. I already have it.

I know CFI came out of Conway if my info is correct.
Anyone out here drive for them? How are they?
I see quite a few of their trucks north of Boston.

Is Celadon still circling the drain?

Roehl is a 15 month commitment so that is still an option but down on my list.

    Thanks for any info

Why don't you go to a local school. get your CDL and then NOT go to a bottom feeding mega? That first year, you will end up making more money than if you went to said mega. Even after accounting for the cost of the schooling.

CFI used to be a truckload carrier, then was sold to Conway. When Conway was bought by xpo, the truckload part was sold and they started calling it CFI again. Different people than before, based in Joplin MO. Go to a local school, companies will visit the school looking for drivers. Or just go to Prime, they will teach you, train you, etc. And you will have a job. They have a terminal in Dubois PA, but their school is in Springfield MO. You can listen to their safety meetings on their web site.

The big problem with Prime is that the license transfer to MA is a problematic and Prime told me that as well. As I stated before, I have the correct info from the MA state police CDL division. License has to be held for 2 years before transferring it to MA or you have to retake the whole test.

NETTTS is 11k for a 540 hour course. 6k for the 180 hr course. Cannot afford either and I only qualify for 2k in aid on the 540 course and a loan will not cover more than 6k.

NETTTS is 6k for the 180 hr course and they have no lending available for that. The 540 hr course is 11k and I do not have the money for the gap between loan and aid.

I have tried all options so far.

No other in your area I take it? Even community college? I ask as every company provided training I've ever seen, it's better for the driver to pay out of pocket and get a better job from the get go.
As for the different courses, all you need is the 160hr course. No company I've ever found wants more (of course I may have just not found said company yet.)

Even 6k is cheap... Let's take for example Swift, which starts at .25 mile going to .35 after a year. At an average of 2100 miles a week (and splitting the pay to .30 a mile) we are looking at av of 630 a week. 2100 was the average when I was there. 630 x 50 = 31,500

We then have someplace that pays .40 a mile for the first year, averaging 2300 miles (still low for a decent company, but it take a newbie to get used to the hours) is 920 a week. 920 x 50 = 46,000

Even after taking into account the 6k, you would be $8,500 ahead.

You don't need a 540 hour course. Cross that completely off your list

I’m from MA, you can do private lessons at Parker, 6 1on1 2 hour classes with enrollment and including the 300$ CDL test fee is 1875$. Not to bad if you’re a fast learner.

I’m personally going through Prime and just not going to change my license over for 2 years anyway since I’m getting rid of my apartment.

Well, you’re in a bit of a pickle.

Your options are (a) get your license in Mass, or (b) reside in another state.

You’ve answered your own question - Mass, and some other states, are exceedingly...difficult...about such things.

If you won’t change your residency, and you get your license out of state...you’ve run aground.
