    Long story short

Last month I sent in my Home time request to be home(DFW) on Thanksgiving

So early this morning i delivery at 7 am, but was able to park at the receiver overnight so i have a full 11/14 hour day.

Now I delivered to a place in colorado springs about 700 miles away from the DFW area.

So instead of getting a load going to DFW i get a stacc load piccin up in Denver going to western colorado today(hot load)(300 loaded miles, 75 empty), then from there pick up a load that delivers in Houston on friday.(about 1200 loaded miles plus empty)

Before I even get a chance to really look at the load and trip plan, the planner calls em IMMEDIATELY trying to get me to accept the load. I tell him Im going to look at the loads first before I accept them. (I learned how to have them accept loads for you before you were comfortable taking them)

Not only am i livid about the planner claiming this is the only load that they have going to Texas(supposedly), but on top of that, I only have 30 hours and some change left on my 70, with no recap hours for about 3 days.

DFW is about a 4 hour drive from Houston, so i did the math, looked at the route which is mostly US highway not interstate and figured i would 99% burn all my clocc by the time I delivered in Houston and would have to take a 34 hour reset.

So ultimately I called my DM(who hasnt got back to me yet), while Im waiting on my DM to call me back, the loads got taken away from me, after only 15 minutes. Makes me wonder if that was really the only load available or if he just wanted someone to move the load from denver to western colorado.

I know the planner is probably upset but I been with this company long enough to know that theres no guarantees. I take that load, get to Texas a day after I set my home time reqest a month ago, and STILL have to do a 34 once i get there, on top of him not guaranteeing me a load to Dallas from Houston.

    What do you guys think

Point the truck east and give'em till tomorrow morning to get you a load home.
No load by 10am next day, turn your phone off deadhead home and enjoy a nice long weekend.

    Agreed.

When you were hired, they told you about their hometime policy. Usually, it's a day off for every week you're out. You put your request in a month ago, and now suddenly, they have a hot load thats going to eat up the hours you need to get to the house? Not happening. Not your problem. If your planners had been doing what they were supposed to do, you wouldn't ever have a need to converse with any desk jockey.

Now, all of a sudden, hot load springs up and you're the ONLY person that can get it. Bull. "I did my part. I'm going to the house. I dont want to hear anything about some 'hot load." It's not my problem." You wanna know the worst thing about this whole ordeal? If you talk to the shipper or receiver, you will find out that the load could have waited until next week.

Oh they have loads, don't worry about that.

The problem is you are 4 hours from home and a potential reset situation. Go. You put it in a month ago, TAKE IT.

This is one of those times you need to have a pair, armored nuts and stand your ground. You put it in a month ago, nice dispatch got you very close to home and BYE!!! See you after thanksgiving.

They are going to yell and storm, its but a wind that passes by when you wait long enough for them to get tired.

Grab the hot load and deliver that, make your next pickup and head home. It's only Tuesday, and you should be able to be home Wednesday night. Take a 34 at the house, leaving out Friday morning for the Houston delivery.

Nothing says you can't stop by the house for Thanksgiving en route to Houston.

Yep, just go home. They ain't going to do nothing to you. They now know you have a set, are a man, and really won't mess with you again.

It’s tough to get home on the exact day you want, specially on a holiday week.

I agree.....but at the same time I disagree. If the planners or dispatchers or whatever are doing their job properly and paying attention to things coming up then there shouldn't be an issue. If other delays happen on the ground that is different.

He’s in Colorado 2 Days before he wants to be home in Texas, He could have asked earlier to be preplanned on loads that would have got him home on time. Or even asked the dispatcher before he took the load to Colorado if it possible to get home on time from there.
OTR is like chess and pool combined together.
