I hope it works out for you. Just wonder why if you can do better on the real short stuff why that wasn't the m.o. all along?

That's the Best I'm going to get- Or i'll Lose it!!
keep in mind kiddo- this isn't spot freight like many of you do on here......(Last minute or 3rd party posted moves)

these are daily runs that I have to quote in a very competitive market around here-

    Give you an example-
If I Quoted $1000 on a 100 mile DAILY run- Not only would I be Turned down by everyone- My name gets bruised- Everyone knows everyone here

Local service is more competitive- Way too many cartage companies- You Have a Window of about $25 to play with

Longevity plays a Huge Role also- Your name-Word of Mouth Etc.........

Coimpletery different ball game than calling Brokers and Playing Cat Mouse on Rates

You're wrong again abut the central hub and yes you are pointing fingers. Chicago is a great area for dry van and reefer. There's nothing special or extradordinary about that rate this time of year. What's your email address I'll show it to you? It was a power only dry load and yes I did have to build a set of doubles and break them down. I did a regular van load 1 pick and 1 drop last week that paid $2,650 on 311 miles. Actually did that one twice it paid $1,650 the first time. What do you mean emergency, last minute, etc, etc? Of course. Why does that make a load suspect to you? That's always the best paying freight why would anyone not be looking for it? Ok I get it. Flatbed freight runs on bankers hours. So why are you hooked to a flatbed this time of year? Historically flatbed freight has always been cheap in the winter. You could have made bank off the brokers earlier this year when it was smoking hot.

We're living in 2 different worlds running very different freight here. You get steady work and I ride the roller coaster. You don't run spot freight and really don't know what you're talking about by the same token I cant really speak anything about direct. And really what you or I or anyone else does in any given scenario is not relevant anyway. Just because something is possible doesn't mean everyone is going to pull it off.

    Im intrigued coal,

First off,Im not sure if you have followed some of my posts on this site but, I only use brokers on return trips from afar, And that is 50/50

In a Spot Market type of environme
Exactly- 2 different operations- Spot Freight is Good for those that don't mind Going anywhere,Doing anything,Better money? Yes......Not my operation, never was- Out and Back my Whole Life.

Anyways- To keep this friendly- I Hope you guys that continue to run the Spot Freight OTR- Make a Lot of money- I'll always be on the Drivers side- Especially the Hard Working ones

I play the direct game for July 1 to oct 31.. works great. I play the broker game the rest of the year. I have sorted through a multitude of brokers who always want to play cat and mouse and now it's more a matter of they know what I will move it for, when am I available. Works well for me. The ones that want to lowball me in the morning and cry when I crucify them on the next quote, don't seem to understand how I prefer to operate- and most of the time the account passes to another pimp anyway. The trick, for me and reefer work, is to stay away from the volatile produce game. I hate it. Up and down. Do a lot better with steady work, frozen and meat.

I run out and back too. It's aggravating to see guys say "brokers never pay that" or whatever. Been doing it too long and have seen a lot that people would say is not possible. It's nothing special and not for bragging either. I've seen a lot of other drivers do the same. If a person learns their lanes they'll know when they can charge and get $1,500 or $2,000 or whatever to a broker on a load like he was talking about. To make blanket statements that it never happens is wrong.

Yep produce sucks. I did one round of that and won't ever do it again. I can get a lot better money on dairy or frozen with nowhere near the wait times for typical produce. Actually I did a load of cabbage out of Florida earlier this year that paid good and was a quick/easy one pick one drop no lumpers, but I know that is not the norm, and it was a load from someone I have worked with and trust. I avoid produce for the most part and fresh chicken will never stink up my trailer either Tyson near me is famous for fun, fun wait times. No thanks

I do believe I said it recently: lot of people say "it can't be done" when what they mean is "I can't do it".
