I have decided to go back to oil and gas... i was formally a data and excel guru as a Engineering Tech when i was laid off... I have a degree in physics and now a cdl with 2 months experience driving semi's ... I was wondering if any of you had some tips for me ... what certifications, skills, things to do that would help me go into wireline??

Apply for a job, long hours and physical, not much driving. I would start with a water hauling gig, vacuum truck, if you are wanting to work in the patch. That will more than likely expose you to many of the other opportunities out there and keep you busy. Starting pay is anywhere from $17 an hour up to $25 depending on the region. Not that great, but it will get your feet wet. The further North you go, the better the pay. I was at $25 an hour in ND hauling water. Then I moved to Propane and Y Grade, that bumped me up to $32 an hour, their equipment.

With your credentials, I would apply to every company that has the wireline division.

It's not a driving job, so your two months of experience would be adequate, In my opinion.

Go Wireline, MBI, Canary, Pioneer, Schlumberger are but a few.

Just google "wireline oil field services".

Trucking just isn't all that glamorous as it's made out be. Is it
    Especially that team driving.
Good luck on your new adventure.

Contact a company that does wireline. They will fill you in. Wireline on the offshore rigs is a better gig.

E-line or slick line? Slick line IMHO is a better gig. Unless being stuck on location for days and days with no end in sight appeals to you.

You realize she has an engineering degree that's already a foot in the door

I would much rather be on a wire line crew than driving a water bottle. You know how many times I run into wire line at a rig and they're cabbed up sleeping and getting paid for it. Wire line will open up more doors than a water truck driver. By any means I'm not saying turn down an offer for water truck if you get one hop on it get your foot in the door at least. Wire line experience and your worth way more than a water truck driver that's a dime a dozen.

Have you been around wire line? Running a vac truck is more labor intensive. Out of cement, frac, coil-tubing, wire line is one of the sweeter gigs.

Check out nine wire line, KLX, Schlumberger, Halliburton, bj services, Cudd and a bunch of other smaller companies
@ChancesRGood where are you located? Southeast Ohio wv and southwestern pa are booming again setting some world records in terms of latteral length of wells. I pre-loaded a cement job that set a world record 19.5k latteral distance total depth 27,750 in just 17 days. HP #608 was the rig. One of their old ones too not those new giant flex rigs that can walk any which way

Don't let being a woman scare you one of my co-workers is and she doesn't take #### from anyone. She came in fresh cdl in hand from cr England after 2 weeks there she said f this. Just make sure your skin is real thick you'll do fine. Any bs my co driver got was from the rig hands all the company men I dealt with were pretty laid back actually
