Anything prior to the Food and Drug act along with Rico laws and prohibition etc etc etc etc was pretty much bonne chance... 1933 to 1934 was a really pivotal year. I recall records documenting a congressman crying out in debate over federal taxation regarding 1% what is to stop the Government from extracting 15%? In the 70's my family endured something like a 19% interest on a 25K house purchase (Which is equal to around roughly 300,000 plus in today's housing by size and square footage etc) and god only knows how much they paid as a small business in a million plus dollar restaurant. Business was not that good in those years.

Swift is at will employment. Don't like working for them, refuse all loads while you drive to the terminal... leave the bobtail in the speed lane, drop your keys with the shop manager and your permit book with the dispatch window. Congratulations, you're no longer being taken advantage of.

And for what it is worth, I did my year with Swift. They didn't take advantage of me in the slightest. They let me train in their equipment for a new career, with their instructors, gave me a job with no interview. Put me in a 120,000 dollar truck and let me haul tens of millions of dollars worth of ####, while paying me almost 70,000 in my first year.

Free advice... find a dedicated account. Your wages will be very satisfactory then. Don't lease. Quit whining. You have a cdl. There are thousands of jobs within one application.

And every single one of them will be making a profit off of you. Don't like it, get your own equipment, insurance, operating authority and take advantage of yourself.

Oh yes. We could run a whole new thread detailing the pitfalls of working at a small "5 truck family trucking operation".

To me, the 50-150 truck "mid-sized" fleets are kinda the sweet spot to get most of the available pros, and minimal cons.

Yea I'll 2nd that. I can tell stories all day how corrupt a small 10-12 driver company is. I won't name the company but ill share some stories.

Owners in their early 70s. Husband's liar and a cheat. 72 years old has 2 yr old son with some broad half his age and who knows how many more. Wife/dispatcher/pants wearer knows about it and still married. Odd relationship if you ask me. Their 2 sons help run things. 1 is an ex sherrif the safety guy nonetheless don't really have anything negative about him

Other son "head of maintenance" is a real winner. His girlfriend does payroll and she may have done some time for embezzlement and a slew of other #### I won't mention about either. Deff the people I want to be handling my money. Pay stubs you don't get a breakdown of what you made just a gross and net. That's even if you get a pay stub. Pretty much everyone is a felon or has dwi or something on their record that works their. The less brains you have the more they want you. Wonder why that is.

Idk how they stay in bussines the one son even told some new driver "yea we've been reported to dep of labor before" not sure why you'd even say something like that, maybe your just that ####y.

I don't work their anymore cut my losses and left. No notice or anything wasn't under a load or anything but they needed me I told them I'd stay over a holiday and bailed a few days prior. 3 weeks straight 300+ missing out of every pay check. No health ins offered either

I won't name names since they gave me a chance to get experience when I had basically had none and only 22 years old not a lot of options. Used to not be like that but the last cpl yrs went down hill bad.

Anyways that's my story thought I'd share & I'm sure there's many other like it.

I should of left sooner but was comfortable and liked what I was doing despite the bs. Towards last is when I started noticing my checks weren't right. They held 3wks back too just so they thought you might forget about it by then.

YOU volunteered to work for SWIFT, don't blame us, or tar the industry for making that choice. Socialists want average results for minimum work and that is how you wreck industries, economies, and countries. The time to DEMAND better treatment is when YOU are choosing where to work., You make that demand by ruling out companies that don't supply what you consider necessary.

Everytime some newbies shows up and says "I know they are bad, but you've got to start somewhere" the industry decays. Make better choices.

Yep. Save the money you are spending on beer, cigarettes, cable tv, movies, fast food and your life becomes better faster. Poor people are poor because they make bad choices, over and over and over.
    Let the excuse-making begin.
