During my pretrip I checked out the fuel filter and it seems like the diesel fuel is higher up on the filter then it was last time I checked it. Does this mean anything at all? Why is this cover even transparent in the first place?
What, if anything, does this mean?

That's a secondary filter, so get it changed when you can.Midnightrider909 Thanks this. -
I think if it gets full it will bypass the filter and you will have unfiltered fuel going to the main filters. But you should be ok for today

It won't hurt anything, just get it changed out like others said.
Transparent is so you can see water levels (it collects at the bottom and can be drained) and so DOT can see if it is stained red from running offroad fuel.Grubby and Midnightrider909 Thank this. -
If you actually change it yourself, have a bucket ready to catch the diesel. I watched some clown take the filter ring off and had diesel all over the place, he just dumped the filter, put the new one in, closed everything up and had a cop standing there when he could not get his truck started to get out of there.
Midnightrider909 and austinmike Thank this.
