You can definitely find work driving, but it wont be with an 18-wheeler. For that you will have to wait a few more years.

I first liked the idea of truck driving when I was 18, but would not get a job so young. So I found a driving job working for a newspaper company driving vans and box trucks. They are smaller, and easier to drive, and only require a class-C drivers license.

You can do some driving with smaller vehicles for pay for a few years and make sure that you enjoy being out on the road all day everyday.

 

I started at 18. Heck i was only 18 by a week or so before running my first load. trucking helped me build a pretty darn good life.

I disagree moosetek. Things have changed. Now getting a “real” education in the USA means 4-6 years of useless liberal indoctrination and $50-100k of debt. At the end of your college experience you might still live at home (often until you are 30), working for Uber or Starbucks. But you have a degree. That’s why many millennials are worthless.

If an ambitious young person actually starts life in a trade or in transportation (trucking), they could follow paths that lead to 6-figure income in that same time. The OP could have the American dream before age 29. Not a bad decision.

 

degrees still mean a lot. The reason we have so many 30 year olds living with mommy while working at starbucks is because they chose to get a degree for which there is no market(egyptian hieroglyphics) or the msrket is flooded (computer science).

 

At the risk of sounding jaded... methinks we are about to experience a serious reset (downward) on computer programming jobs.

All these AI (artificial intelligence) systems being developed will replace coders so fast, most will not have a clue what hit them. Some of these AI can code themselves....tic...toc...tic....toc

 

Does not matter. That market is already so over flooded its nearly impossible to earn a decent living in that field.

Education is not always a guarantee of a good life. Often, it destroys a young person's life with 100k in debt that is not dischargeable through bankruptcy.

I do agree that trucking is a poor choice for a 19 year old with their whole life ahead of them. I would venture to guess that a large percentage of us are from manufacturing backgrounds who are victims of free trade and construction trades who have taken a hit in the last decade. For so many, trucking is a last resort.

 

On the contrary trucking saved me from an unhappy routine of customer service, uncertainty, and routine. As a flatbed driver I am generally fulfilled, making decent money and happy. It’s not for everyone, I understand. But it’s an option.

Yes, there are. but ... they are construction companies, and the like.

- Do those companies pay the training ?? Are they send students to other schools with(out) reimbursement ??

No the ones I mentioned don't.

- Which is the best state to make Intrastate ??

Pick a state, it is pretty much all the same.

- Do tou have references of companies and schools to give me ??

Nope but I have two suggestions.

The first is to think about applying to places like FedEx and UPS, they will take and train you to drive a truck and it won't cost a dime.

The second is I don't know what the status of the oil fields are like now, but when I was out there looking at some business ventures in Texas and the Dakotas, they had young people working their way up to drivers and some smaller companies paid for the training.
