I have a 20+ ticket, should i even get a CDL now?

This kind of thinking will cause you trouble . Because it simply isn't true anywhere.

 

I read the title as you having 20 plus tickets. All I could think was: How's he gonna get out of prison?

 

Not in any jurisdiction in the US. The speed is the speed at the sign. If you need 300 yards to slow down then start slowing 300 yards before the sign! And if you need 300 yards to slow down you really need to check your speed anyway.

 

The fact you saw a speed sign "right next to your car" after getting your ticket means you weren't just entering the speed zone, but had been in it for some time already. While I would take one look at your application (and even assuming you declared this on it) and throw it into the bin, there are companies out there willing to hire anyone.

But you are still young and dumb, and need to smarten up a whole lot if you want to be a proper professional (being in "last place" on the road is a sign of a true professional truck driver).

As a Canadian who is used to km/h, you were doing 119 km/h in a 72 km/h zone. A 70 km/h zone here has sidewalks and pedestrian corridors. This isn't just irresponsible, it's downright stupid. In Ontario, you would have been handed a minimum $10,000 fine and your car impounded right then and there.

 

Got a ticket for 77 in a 40 back in the 80's on my bike. DPS had a road block set up at the intersection. They were mad because they had gotten outrun by some bikes earlier that day. Cost me 24 dollars! True story -

 

If it is your first and only speeding ticket; and you do actually have a passion to get into trucking I would suggest that you pursue your trucking career. If you get your cdl; with the demand in the Industry and you learn good habits and develop safe driving you will certainly be given a chance. Make the most of it; and good luck - don't be easily discouraged as there is a learning curve after your get hired and you will have to pay your dues so anticipate giving it 6 to 9 months of consistent effort. One ticket at your age especially doesn't mean a life sentence. Get crackin my friend!

 

That mentality will quickly fade once you get a CDL and start driving for hours on end.

With that said I would get my CDL and pound the pavement. Somebody out there will hire you.

And the fine is "up to 10,000"
I have heard of people getting the 50 over ticket +7 day impound and usually first offence is written for $2,000. I guess if you were 50 or 60 over might be different than if they catch you at 100 or more over.

 

Yeah, I'm Manitoban. Only go by what I hear from people in Ontario. "The fish was THIS BIG" stories and all that. Manitoba RCMP usually impound based on attitude of the driver (their Facebook page posts some hilarious quotes from drivers they stop doing 150+), not necessarily the quantity over.
