I got a 2016 cascadia and the bunk heater won't stop clinking. It sounds like a hammer hammering down nails. I woke up to it in Montana the other night, shut it off, went back to sleep and then woke up with icicles in my nose. Any idea what this is?

    TravR1 Thanks this.

Maybe the fuel in the lines and the filter was old and it gelled just in the unit.

That’s how the fuel pump works on those. It’s basically a solenoid action pump. My Western Star was real loud, my Cascadia is pretty quiet.
It’s just a matter of where it is mounted that determines how much noice you experience. Could see about moving it.

The colder it is outside, the harder it has to work. Those little plastic fuel lines aren't insulated, so the fuel is harder to move when it gets cold.

Every bunk heater I have used always made a clicking sound.
Maybe have it looked at but chances are it's normal.

    Get some ear plugs lol.

I have been thinking about getting some ear plugs for reasons like that one. But then I’d worry I would not hear someone breaking into my cab or trailer, or someone knocking on my door telling me my trailer is on fire

    BillStep and gillz107 Thank this.

If it's putting heat out and clicking that's the fuel metering device. The more fuel it needs the faster it clicks. If there is a failure the unit will shut down and not produce any heat. Therefore it is working correctly. Always manually turn it off and give it a few minutes to shut down before you fire up the big motor in the morning. A voltage drop when starting the big engine often turns off the bunk heater abruptly which over time leads to it filling up with gunk and needs maintenance prematurely.

You shouldn't need ear plugs for the bunk heater clicking. It should be barely noticeable. Just tune it out same as you would do for reefers or idling trucks or people talking you know any of the sounds that occur in truck stop parking lots.
