So this has been done before but whatever. Day 1 of Schneider bulk training done. Well, it was really just orientation. Anyway, I failed the physical 2 weeks ago and considered maybe going elsewhere. Ate clean and worked out a bit in those 2 weeks and passed today (failed originally because my heart rate went too high). If you're local and fail, talk with your recruiter and work something out, they are there to help. Anyways, orientation at Houston starts out with paper work, a bunch of computer modules ( the days worth) and physicals/drug tests. Towards the end of the day, you go and put on some PPE and climb up on a tanker/do the catwalk. That's pretty much it. Everyone at Schneider is very helpful. Serious, yet understanding and laid back at the same time. I'm glad I stuck with them. Til tomorrow guys.

I have 1 year of driving experience already, but not in tankers. Have my Haz-Mat and TWIC card already, and just need to prep myself for the physical.

You will be doing step up and down on a 1ft box for minute straight. Followed by a 40lb box lift and walk followed by squat with 45lb, touch floor up to waist. Followed by lifting 45lb over head 3x, then a push and pull test. Walking on a catwalk and a long piece of wood. I weighed 268 2 weeks, today was 257. My advice is eat fish pills everyday and practice stair climbing/stepping everyday til your day yo do physical. Heart rate dropped from 183 to 154. I am yrs old, my number of beats could not be higher than 179. I am 5'6". You can do it

If they are following the standard heartrate chart which is 220 - age then I should not go over 194 BPM. I'm 5'5" but only weigh 186 lbs. I always thought the weight to lift was much higher. Heard from someone that when they took the test 45lbs was the minimum to be hired but you had to then lift 60lbs for the tanker side. I did flatbed for 5 months and had to climb and walk on top of 14' high wood planks so walking ontop of a tanker should not be a problem.

I hear stories of people who pass the physical but when it comes to walking across the tank they fail due to fear of falling.

0 yeah that's it, just multiply your number 194 by .9, they want you at no more than 90 percent, prior it was 30, 40 and 60lbs 3reps each but they changed it apparently. You should be fine, eat a light breakfast and avoid smoking/coffee before physical in the morning. Try to get 8hrs sleep too. Yeah that tanker walk was a little higher than expected, but everyone did good, if you find yourself uncomfortable they'll work with you to transfer to a different division. You'll be fine though for sure

So day 2 is done. So far so good. Today we basically went over hazmat til lunch time. Had a meeting with the safety manager (think that's the right name). Discussed the different positions, pay, and time out/home. Whatever is in your email from your recruiter is what you get btw. Serious, but fair and good people here. Went back to class and took a little hazmat test. Pretty straight forward. Oh! Experienced drivers will be in class roughly 2 weeks. Doesn't matter what your recruiter told you. Inexperienced is 31 days, we get Christmas and Christmas eve off. 7days a week we train (to my knowledge). Anyways, we practiced paper logs, studied it, took a test on it. Pretty straight forward. I'm digging everything so far, very professional. The fact that the teacher upstairs has coffee for everyone is great (use to work making coffee at central market on westheimer, Houston, Tx. 100 percent would recommend ,for real, traditional, coffee). That specific teacher is real cool / funny too. That is all for today.
