Looking for you guys opinion from someone who has actually worked for at least one program from either of these company. I'm talking about getting a truck through those guys and doing their choice programs running where you want to picking your own loads. The problem with some of the information that you read on the internet and some of these forums is they pay recruitment dollars so 90% of the time it's all shiny great comments that you're getting and when somebody had a falling out of course you know what those comments are going to be. This for me being 41 years old with two children in college it is a very very very big decision for my family. I've been running hot/ expedited for well over 10 years. As far as the business side of owning / leasing the truck. As far as the change from smaller trucks to Class 8 equipment I have a lot of help in this fences and basically business plan from both my father and my uncle who both were owner operator well over 25 years before they retired. I'm just like anyone else with a family. Home time is very important and of course making a living but I don't have to set the world on fire and run 25 days out of a month. These two programs as far as the research I have done seen to be the best one for me on paper but of course you really truly don't know until two or three months down the road. JB Hunt and 80s have similar programs but I do not know anything about those. I can run fan or skateboard. It just seems as of right now just starting out it would be safer to start in a van because of simply just more Freight. I can run anywhere and don't mind New York Canada wherever the only two places I don't really want to go is California or Mexico for obvious reasons. As far as truck I don't have to have one of the 80,000 and over beautiful tricked out trucks. Personally $50,000 and under can get you a very nice truck that is reliable. I would rather go purchase good used truck outright from dealer or person but like a lot of my credit score if I even got a truck Finance would kill me on interest. Best way to say it is I'm going to keep the financial hole as shallow as possible before I jump in LOL Again sorry for the long post guys but the more information you guys have about a question be better Suited the replies LOL.

Hey can give you some insight into Landstar -
As far as I’m aware Landstar doesn’t lease trucks.
SingingWolf Thanks this. -
Landstar does NOT lease trucks. You lease on a truck you currently have or are leasing or financing from somewhere else.
-
Landstar's brother in law is Lone Mountain Truck Leasing though.
UturnGirl and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
Bakerman and blairandgretchen Thank this.

After, obviously - a good business plan, debt consolidation, reduction, bringing a good attitude , more planning and a good driving record.
It’s working for me - 3 years in, 100k in business assets paid for,and the bills get paid. Work less, earn more.
Mercer - pretty much same deal.
Schneider Choice, I know personally 1 guy that’s made it work - with a temporary lease purchase truck, then financed his own - but the plan was very well calculated and executed.
Their load board is point and click - no haggling or agent contact, but their system is more ‘micro management ‘ style. Less revenue potential than the aforementioned too.
Not sure if any of this is helping. Or not.Rix43 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -

The journey begins - purchased a truck.
If you can be bothered, this chronicles the last 3 years of the shift from company driver to LS.
Lots of helpful chime ins from other TTR folks, skip read and garner what you may need. Good luck.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
I leased mine through Freightliner. It's just a few days of sending paper back and forth to Jacksonville.
blairandgretchen Thanks this.
