So its been almost a decade since i have even seen the inside of a semi. Back in '08 I got my CDL-A's and went with a friend who worked with PTL. He ended up having marriage problems during my training period and had to leave. I then had a couple of different trainers (all were new drivers with no expericence) and suffice to say one stole my identity and couldnt get a new partner, and had to wait for a week before i could. That being said... I'm coming back!
Talked to several recruiters and have finally decided that Prime would suit me the best. For the past 3 months i have rigorously investigated several companies who put you through school. Prime's training appears to be what i need as i am more of a hands on learner than anything.
Have you guys have any words of wisdom or encouragement you can give me. Also Prime drivers anything you guys can tell me to help me succeed in this new career will be much appreciated. Been working at a prison for the past 8 years and it was the only thing i know im really good at. I have always dreamed of being back in the trucking life again and now is my chance. Thanks in advance!
after 9 years back to trucking.. going prime

Your obviously not a youngster, as you mentioned last out 10yrs ago.
I'm assuming you let that CDL lapse, as you are looking at company training w/accompanied time obligation. Looked into getting on your own before hand, or not an option in your situation?
Also, are you ex military? I ask because of avitar used.Last edited: Dec 19, 2017

What kind of hauling do you ultimately see yourself doing, after all said & done.
Reef, flat, tanker.....?
Stay OTR, or eventually work into dedicated, regional, local, etc....?
One of my best friends was a prison guard (now deceased). My second to last student was a former juvie guard & also former Air Force MP. Retired from airlines. Still w/us.
Previous trainer of mine (& good friend) from 4/5yrs ago from Dixon, TN. No longer training & runs dedicated out of Murfreesboro ( I musta did him in on that!....LOL).Last edited: Dec 19, 2017

It's a good job for a 2 income house for someone with no college education and desire to be home every night. That's my opinion anyways... Now he may be making more as some states do pay FAR better as do some privately owned prisons.FullMetalJacket Thanks this. -
With the new eld laws he should feel right at home

Moot point, unless he goes & buys an older truck on his own...... which is not going to happen right now in his situation.
