I know Schneider, Swift, Roehl, and other well known names are mega.

Carter and Millis don't seem to fit that, but then I'm not sure what exactly qualifies as "mega" besides large carrier.

Honestly, employee turn over rate isn't that big of a concern unless it's due to constant downsizing, firing for no reason, and relocations/closure.

I've dealt with #### management off and on over the years, you just can't beat a good micro-manager.

Apply at the LTL companies in your area, get on the dock and they'll pay you to get your CDL.

This is great advice if you can handle hard work and working part time for a while. Our dock workers at Dayton Freight start out at $18/hr. Some dock workers work for 2 LTLs on different shifts so that they can put together a decent income on 2 part time jobs. We have some who do that, where they also work at Old Dominion or FedEx Freight.

We have a guy in Cincy who worked the dock, did the dock-to-driver program, and in no time got a linehaul spot. He should be making well over $90k now given our averages. It might be worth trying that route if you can handle the drawbacks of dock work. The gamble is you don't know how long you'd have to stick it out. I'd go to the places I mentioned before on East Crescentville Rd and ask about their dock-to-driver programs.

Got forklift skills by any chance, @midnightlost ?

Sadly, that is one thing I haven't had a chance to actually drive over various jobs. I'm sure it can't be harder than driving the RC car I got my kid for Christmas though. 1 control for left side, 1 control for right side, other controls for the fork itself.

$18 isn't bad, would be something if it was full time. Never been afraid of getting my hands dirty or learning a new skill. Just tired of working with little to no gain down the road, or layoffs cause the company decided to move out of town or move the department out of country.

I'll be looking into those other companies today, already applied at the Schneider run you mentioned. Thanks again for that tip. Called Carter, and they have a local run out of Erlanger open but have to wait for their recruiter to get back from vacation for more info.

Definitely lots in the area, and honestly one of the few times in the past 8 years I'm glad I moved here.

Also, going to contact Holland. They have dock to driver program, but it's only listed for Cleveland. May get lucky though.
